Jose Mourinho reveals Gareth Bale told him he wants right-winger role as he prepares to make debut vs West Ham

JOSE MOURINHO revealed Gareth Bale wants to be his right-hand man.
Bale is set to make his first start for Tottenham since rejoining them on a season-loan from Real Madrid last month.

And Spurs boss Mourinho warned we will see a very different player to the lightning left winger, who left the club for the Bernabeu just over seven years ago.
The Special One said: “One of the first questions in my first conversation with Gareth — because the team is the most important thing but the player is important too — was ‘What’s your favourite position?’
“I wanted to start from there and he answered me the question.

“Does that mean he will always be used in that position? No. Because the most important thing is the team, and he will play where the team needs him to play.
“But he was very clear by saying his favourite position is on the right.
“It’s not as a No 10, it’s not as a striker, it’s not any more on the left side like he did in the first years of his career at Southampton and Tottenham.
“His favourite position now is on the right side. So, that was a very good starting point of his development here.”

But Mourinho believes Bale, 31, will still be able to put his stamp on matches just like he did during his first Spurs spell and in his first few years in Madrid — before his fallout with their coach Zinedine Zidane.

    3

Bale is set to start against West Ham on Sunday evening.
And Mourinho said: “When he reaches his continuity and when he reaches his normal intensity and dynamic, I think he can be the player people saw being decisive when he went to Real Madrid, in a very similar position.
“Real was basically, Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, with Bale fundamentally playing from the right and that’s the position he prefers.”
Former Manchester United and Chelsea chief Mourinho, 57, insisted he is also playing a different role these days – as a club man.
Asked if he now had the perfect platform on which to become a “super coach” again, he replied: “I am not worried about that, I am worried about Tottenham – not about me.
“Tottenham needs an evolution to end this period. Hopefully we do it with me here but if not with me, I hope that I can give a contribution for that.
“Tottenham needs to win a trophy. That is the aim of the fans and the club.

“I am worried with Tottenham and not with myself.
“I will be just a consequence of what happens but I am in a period of my career where I become much more of a club man than before.
“I always gave everything to the club where I was working but I always had space to be selfish and think about myself – you could feel that in some of my career decisions.
“In this moment I give a completely different perspective and I only care about Tottenham.”
Bale playing on the right and Jose not caring only about himself – these really are strange times.

Everton in transfer move for Man Utd’s Sergio Romero or Tottenham ace Paulo Gazzaniga to challenge Jordan Pickford

EVERTON have reportedly made contact with Manchester United and Tottenham about signing Sergio Romero and Paulo Gazzaniga.
Toffees stopper Jordan Pickford’s form has been shaky since the beginning of last season and the Merseysiders are looking to bring someone in to challenge him.

Romero, 33, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford after Dean Henderson returned from Sheffield United to fight for the No 1 jersey with David De Gea.
And Spurs recruited Joe Hart as backup to Hugo Lloris this summer which could reduce Gazzaniga’s game time.
Everton are seeking a loan move for either man but both Tottenham and United want permanent deals, according to the Times.

But they will have to act fast after their bitter rivals Liverpool also made contact with Spurs about Gazzaniga.
The Toffees are also keen on Roma stopper Pau Lopez, according to several European outlets – including SportsLens.
The Spaniard, 25, spent the 2016-17 season on loan with Tottenham but did not make a single Premier League appearance.
Romero wants out and Pickford is under fire following his double cock-up in Everton’s 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Fleetwood last Wednesday, although boss Ancelotti defended him.

It is the latest in a number of mistakes the England goalkeeper, 26, has made in the last 12 months.

Aston Villa showed interest in Romero before manager Dean Smith snapped up Emiliano Martinez for an initial £17million from Arsenal.
Valencia and AC Milan are also understood to have made checks on the United goalkeeper.
Romero could command a fee of as much as £6m as he has just a year left on his Old Trafford deal.
He was upset with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overlooking him for both the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea and Europa League semi-final loss to Sevilla last season.
That prompted Romero — on wages of £70,000 a week — to look for another club as he hunts for  the chance to play regular first-team football.
Everton made Norwich’s Ben Godfrey their fifth signing of the transfer window earlier today.
The centre-back follows James Rodriguez, Niels Nkounkou, Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure through the door at Goodison.

Tottenham reject second Dele Alli loan bid from PSG with Mourinho keen to keep star despite row rumours

TOTTENHAM want to keep Dele Alli – after snubbing Paris Saint-Germain’s second bid to sign him on loan.
The French giants offered to pay Spurs £3.5million to secure the star’s services for the rest of the season.

But the North Londoners have no intention of letting him leave – despite him falling out of favour with boss Jose Mourinho.
Dele has played just 45 minutes of Premier League football this season after being subbed at half-time of Tottenham’s 1-0 home defeat by Everton on the opening day of the season.
And he was not even on the bench for four of their seven games this term as Mourinho questioned his attitude.

The Portuguese was also shown calling him a “f***ing lazy guy” in an episode of Amazon’s fly-on-the-ball documentary series.
PSG, looking to take advantage, had an initial loan offer of £1.5m rejected by Spurs.
The second improved bid has now also been turned down.
It is believed to be a season loan only and not with a view to a permanent deal.

But Spurs expect him to stay – after he came off the bench and scored a penalty in their 7-2 win at home to Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League play-off on Thursday.

Mourinho praised Dele’s second half cameo and as well as his attitude in training.
So it seems that there won’t be any old boys’ reunion for Alli at PSG.

Tottenham ‘reject PSG’s £4m Dele Alli loan transfer offer but Ligue 1 side could bid a third time for Spurs star’

TOTTENHAM have rejected a £4million loan bid for Dele Alli from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.
The offer was the second Spurs have received from PSG but the North Londoners are said to be bracing themselves for a third from the Ligue 1 champions.

The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and could be on the move before Monday’s transfer deadline.
But anyone interested in nabbing him on loan will have to pay more than the £4m Spurs have rejected from PSG, according to the Telegraph.
PSG’s bid did not include an option to buy and it is unclear whether they are willing add such a clause to any future offer.

Mourinho is said to be happy for the Englishman to leave.
But chairman Daniel Levy reportedly wants the midfielder to stay and fight for his place.
Alli scored his first goal of the season during Spurs’ 7-2 Europa League thrashing of Maccabi Haifa on Thursday night.
But his recent slump in form and attitude has seen him axed from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

It was first suggested he could head to Real Madrid as part of the package that brought Gareth Bale back to Tottenham.

Alli is believed to be keen on a new challenge after five years at Spurs.
Mourinho has attempted to keep his relationship with the player good despite axing him, describing him as “very professional”.
He added that he had “only respect for him”.

Jose Mourinho ‘warned by Madrid pals that Gareth Bale will struggle’ as Spurs boss holds talks with star over transfer

JOSE MOURINHO has held talks with Gareth Bale about a move to Tottenham but has reportedly been warned the Welshman may stuggle.
Spurs are leading the race to sign the winger on loan from Real Madrid.

But Mourinho has been warned the winger ‘may struggle’ by former Real Madrid colleagues

And a deal is nearing completion, amid rival interest from Manchester United.
Bale’s agent admitted there are still details to be ironed out but remained optimistic a move could be done.
He told Sky Sports News: “Gareth has spoken to Jose and explained how Spurs have a special place in his heart.

“There’s a long way to go on some issues, but without doubt Gareth is closer to leaving Madrid than at any time in last seven years.
“The deal is complicated, but there’s reason to believe a deal is close and things could move very quickly if discussions continue to go well.”
Mourinho refused to comment on the player during his press conference earlier today.
And his former colleagues at Real Madrid have warned him against signing the 31-year-old, according to ESPN.

The Spurs boss was reportedly told Bale would struggle to meet the demands of the Premier League.

And he was advised to proceed with caution given his injury problems in recent seasons.
But Mourinho reportedly believes he will see a resurgence in Bale if he moves back to Tottenham.
Bale is thought to be keen to return to North London having left in 2013 for £85million.
Last month, the 31-year-old opened the door to a Premier League return after Madrid pulled the plug on a move to China last year.
He stated: “If [Premier League] options arise it is something I’d look at for sure.
“We’ll see what happens, we have plenty of time in this transfer window and a couple of others as well.
And when asked if Bale is a player he admires, Mourinho said: “I tried to sign him for Real Madrid which was not possible to do during my time there.
“But the president followed my instinct and my knowledge and the season after I left he brought Gareth to the club.
“There is no secret on [my admiration of the player], I think even Gareth knows that.”
Mourinho is said to have told Bale he would play a vital role in his team this season.
