The former Light Blues striker ended up on the deck at one point during the rammy on Hunter Street in the Lanarkshire town late on Saturday night.

And he continually tried to get at the man as his pals tried to desperately calm him down.

Cops have now confirmed they are probing the fight.

A police spokesperson said: “We have not received any complaint regarding this incident which has been shared online, however we are now carrying out a criminal investigation and working to establish the circumstances.

“Any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist us should contact East Kilbride Police Office through 101 quoting incident number 3307 of March 9.”

We told how Novo’s sickened victim said he felt as if he was being assaulted by an “animal”.

He said: “I just couldn’t believe it. He was like an animal — he had a menacing look in his eyes and was just going for me.”

The victim said he feared a case of mistaken identity.

He added: “I think he was arguing with a Celtic supporter further down the street and thought I was with those lads, but I wasn’t.

“I’m sure he would be interested to know I’m actually a Rangers supporter.

“He was out with someone who was like his bodyguard and the two of them were just going for it.

“I’m gutted about it as he’s an icon and I’ve spoken to him before in the town.

“I’m putting it down to drinking too much, but he can’t just go around doing that to people. It’s dangerous.”
