Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on David Beckham’s Inter Miami wishlist as Man Utd legend eyes huge transfers

DAVID BECKHAM is dreaming about unleashing the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at Inter Miami.
The former England skipper has been working his Golden Balls off behind the scenes to make sure old pal and new Miami boss Phil Neville is ready for the MLS season which starts in April.

Beckham, speaking as the club launched their latest shirt, is desperate for the Inter academy system to become one of the best in the world.
But Becks knows swooping for true global superstars is essential to keep excitement levels high in South Florida.
Both Messi and Ronaldo fancy ending their careers Stateside and the Manchester United legend said: “I have said from day one that our academy system is a massive part of this club and if we can bring players through here that have lived and breathed Inter Miami then that is the goal.
“But we also know that being in Miami, our fans want to see the big stars.

“We already have players like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi who add to the glitz and glamour but also going forward we want to have the opportunity to bring some great names in.
“Leo and Cristiano have been mentioned (in the question just asked), they have been at the top of their game and been the best for the last 15 years because of hard work. There is very little luck behind it.
“Sir Alex Ferguson was the master at choosing the right player, he didn’t always bring the best player in the world, he brought the right player for the club and that is one of the things that I have taken into this place.”
Neville has already added former Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross to his squad as well as Brazilian midfielder Gregore while talks with West Bromwich Albion full-back Kieran Gibbs continue.

Beckham added: “The player has to be right for the team, still have ambition and want to win.
“So whatever player we talk to, we have to make sure that is a priority.
“Of course, we always want to bring in great players. Miami is a great pull for anyone and those kinds of players (Messi and Ronaldo) are who we aspire to bring here.”
Becks’ love for United, however, will never die and he reckons old pal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing the business back in the red half of Manchester.
He said: “Ole has done really well, he is loved by the fans and the players.
“He is respected because of what he has done in his career and even in difficult times he has performed and given everyone at United hope.
“I wished him a happy birthday the other day and called him boss. He doesn’t call me that – but I might ask him to.”

Ryan Shawcross completes free transfer to David Beckham’s Inter Miami after ending 14-year stint with Stoke City

RYAN SHAWCROSS has joined Phil Neville at David Beckham’s Inter Miami after ending his 14-year stint at Stoke.
The 33-year-old Potters captain was out of contract but has terminated his deal early to head Stateside.

Centre-half Shawcross, who arrived at Stoke from Manchester United in 2007, had made just two Championship appearances from the bench this season.
Now he has secured his exit and will arrive in America ready to begin pre-season training at Inter on February 22, as reported by Sun Sport earlier this month.
He is the latest signing under owner Becks – who has ploughed another £11.2million of his own cash into the US franchise.
Shawcross is joining superstars like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi as Neville attempts to improve on last season’s disappointing 10th-placed finish in the Eastern Conference.

The Florida-based side have also added Rodolfo Pizarro and draft pick Josh Penn this month.

There’s so many things going for the Club and for such a young club, a new club to have all these things going for it, it’s just a fantastic opportunity for me.”
    Ryan Shawcross

Shawcross said: “It’s really exciting. It’s a great opportunity. I’ve read loads about Inter Miami and seen loads of videos from last year, I’m really excited to be part of the team and looking forward to helping out.
“Originally, I had seen the press about it when the Club first started, and you see the owners and the vision they have, and you can’t help but want to be involved with it.
“It’s a fantastic setup…The fantastic facilities are something to be really excited about, and then you hear about the fans and how enthusiastic and passionate they are.

“There’s so many things going for the Club and for such a young club, a new club to have all these things going for it, it’s just a fantastic opportunity for me. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully contribute in a good way.
“I’m just looking to be myself, the only thing I can do is do what I’ve done throughout my career and that’s try hard, do my best, and try to set the standards and contribute to the team.
“I’m going to be coming into a new squad and try to improve myself, improve the people around me, and try to help out as much as I can.”

Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said: “Ryan fits the Inter Miami DNA because of his experience and his longevity at a club.
“He’s going to be able to come here and be a leader, not only on the field, but his leadership will be seen with the young players and players coming through.
“He’s physically dominant, his feet are good, his range of passing is good and we think he’s going to be a great addition to our backline.
“Adding another central defender was important for our group and we want to create competition at every position.
“That’s the goal, to be able to go out everyday and the players are fighting for their spot.
“That will help the team as a whole. That’s Phil’s vision to have competition.”
Stoke had already confirmed his departure to ‘pursue new playing opportunities in the United States’.

Chief executive Tony Scholes said: “Ryan’s contribution to the club over the last 14 years simply cannot be overestimated.
“His outstanding leadership and the consistency of his displays made him a talismanic figure for us.
“He has been an outstanding role model, both on and off the pitch, and the way he applied himself in training and matches epitomised the city of Stoke-on-Trent – hard-working, committed and loyal.
“He feels the time is right to explore new opportunities and leaves with our very best wishes.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ryan, his wife Kath and their family every success for the future – they will always be welcome at the bet365 Stadium.”
Shawcross, who won one England cap, took over the captaincy in 2009 and led Stoke out in the 2011 FA Cup Final.
He had remained a regular in the defence until he suffered a fractured leg in pre-season 2019.
Despite the transfer window in England being closed, American clubs are still able to buy players from Europe.
Neville recently left his role as England Women’s boss to go and work for his former Old Trafford and Class of 92 pal Becks.
And now he is wasting no time in bringing in reinforcements ahead of his first season at the helm.
Inter are preparing for their second MLS campaign – which kicks off on April 17.

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill added: “It’s very rare these days for a player to stay at one club for 14 years. I’m sure Ryan has had opportunities to go elsewhere down the years but he clearly felt settled and valued here.
“He hasn’t figured as often as he would have liked over the past couple of years but his professionalism and the way he has conducted himself, both on the training ground and around the club, since I joined simply cannot be questioned.
“Ryan has an exciting opportunity ahead of him which I know he’s keen to grasp and I wish him nothing but success for the future.”

Ryan Shawcross set for free transfer to David Beckham’s Inter Miami as defender rips up remainder of Stoke contract

RYAN SHAWCROSS is set to become David Beckham’s latest Inter Miami signing after agreeing to leave Stoke after nearly 14 years.
The long-serving defender, 33, has reached an agreement with the Potters to terminate his contract in order to push through the move to Beckham’s MLS franchise.

Ryan Shawcross is set for a move to David Beckham’s MLS team Inter Miami

Inter Miami are gearing up for their second MLS campaign – with the season kicking off on April 17 – and new manager Phil Neville wants Shawcross at the heart of his defence.
He will join superstars like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi in Miami’s distinctive white and pink colours as they look to improve on last season’s 10th-placed finish in the Eastern Conference.
Shawcross has made just two appearances this season due to injury and Stoke boss Michael O’Neill confirmed he is on his way Stateside.
O’Neill said: “It’s very close to being finalised now. I think there are a couple of things Ryan has to sort out his end with Inter Miami but as far as everything to agree at Stoke’s end, my understanding is that it’s been done.

“I suppose it’s just a matter of time now before it’s finalised.”
The move will see Shawcross link up with owner Beckham – who was a superstar at Manchester United when the centre-half arrived as a schoolboy.

It is Beckham’s second season as an MLS owner

The one-cap England defender never broke through at Old Trafford, his £1million move to Stoke in 2008 – having had a season there on loan – will go down as a huge bargain.

He went on to make a staggering 453 appearances for the Potters, captained them aged just 22 and wore the armband at Wembley for their FA Cup Final appearance in 2011 – where they lost to Manchester City.
He has suffered a torrid last two seasons – spending the vast majority of the time on the sidelines after a leg break in 2019 – but is now set for sunnier climes.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami face transfer battle with New York Red Bulls and DC United for West Brom’s Kieran Gibbs

INTER MIAMI face a battle if they are to sign West Brom left-back Kieran Gibbs, according to reports.
David Beckham’s MLS franchise have been heavily linked with the former Arsenal star, whose contract at the Hawthorns expires in June.

They have only offered him a fraction of his current £70,000-a-week contract, however, which could open the door to other suitors.
According to ESPN, Gibbs’ interest in moving stateside has alerted other MLS teams.
New York Red Bulls, for whom Gibbs’ former team-mate Thierry Henry previously starred for, have contacted the 31-year-old representatives.
And Wayne Rooney’s former side DC United are also interested in signing West Brom’s highest-paid player.

The Baggies have no interest in renewing Gibbs’ deal, whether or not they are relegated from the Premier League.
West Brom are currently 11 points from safety, with Sam Allardyce having struggled to turn results around.
Gibbs has made ten appearances in the Premier League this season, competing with Conor Townsend for the starting berth at left-back.
Townsend, however, was this week handed a new three-year contract at the Hawthorns.

Inter Miami close in on Shawcross and Gibbs transfers with Chelsea flop Pato also offered to David Beckham’s side

And former Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs, 31, is in talks and looks set to follow Shawcross to MLS after deciding to quit West Brom.
His contract at the Hawthorns expires at the end of the season and he’s keen to move to South Florida.
Neville and owner David Beckham have wasted no time getting to work and sorting out the problems which hampered Miami’s first season in the League.
Both players will boost a defence which was in desperate need of leadership and experience last term.

Nev is also tracking a left winger and a new keeper with Minnesota’s Tyler Miller on his radar.
Scottish ace Lewis Morgan performed well out wide last term but Neville sees the 24 year-old in a more central role.
Former AC Milan and Brazil forward Alexandre Pato has also been offered to Inter Miami.
But the Chelsea flop also remains in talks with Orlando City where he would team up with compatriot Nani.

Pato, 31, was in negotiations with Iraq club Al Diwaniya, their club president confirmed.

But the striker reportedly demanded a huge salary as well as a big house with a pool equipped and guaranteed safety for himself and wife Rebeca.
Al Diwaniya chief Hussein Al-Ankoshei eluded to the Pato’s demands in an interview with Rudaw TV channel.
He said:  “Negotiations are ongoing, the conditions he has set are difficult to meet and there is still no final agreement, it is not easy.”

How David Beckham’s Inter Miami could line-up under Phil Neville with Ryan Shawcross and Kieran Gibbs transfers eyed

PHIL NEVILLE is keen to make his mark in Miami with a number of new signings.
The former England women’s boss has taken charge of David Beckham’s MLS team.

Here’s one way Inter Miami could line-up next season

Neville and Becks are on a mission to recreate Manchester United’s Class of 92 at Inter Miami.
And the new manager knows exactly what he needs to get the club firing on all cylinders.
Ryan Shawcross is keen to end his 14-year spell with Stoke to sign for the American side.
The former Manchester United man remains under contract with the Potters until June – but could terminate his deal early.

The 33-year-old wants game time as he has played just twice in the Championship this season.
Ex-Arsenal star Kieran Gibbs has also emerged as a transfer target for the MLS side.
The 31-year-old full-back’s contract with West Brom expires at the end of the season.
According to The Athletic, West Brom are happy for Gibbs to leave as he is one of the club’s highest-paid players.

He has made ten Premier League appearances for the Baggies during the 2020-21 campaign.
The two Premier League stars could slot straight into Neville’s starting XI next term.
With Blaise Matuidi in midfield and Gonzalo Higuain up top, Miami would be stronger than ever.
England legend Beckham recently sunk another £11.2million to increase his stake in the side.
The 45-year-old had a glittering career as a footballer and he is determined to replicate that success as a football club owner.
His team finished tenth in the Eastern Conference last season with just seven wins from 23 matches.

US-born Celtic starlet Cameron Harper ‘agrees deal’ to join New York Red Bulls ahead of MLS season

CELTIC starlet Cameron Harper has agreed a deal which will take him to New York Red Bulls during this window, according to reports.
Various outlets are reporting that a fee has been agreed to take the 19-year-old American – who started a recent Hoops match against Hibs – back home.

Harper made his first start against Hibs

The MLS transfer window doesn’t officially open until February 10, ahead of the new season which is scheduled to begin a few weeks later, and it doesn’t close until May 4.
The 19-year-old – who can play through the middle or out wide – had been in discussions over a pre-contract.
But the Red Bulls are believed to want the player in as soon as possible ahead of the season starting and the player is thought to have agreed a multi-year deal.
He becomes the latest promising Parkhead talent to leave after Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn joined Bayern Munich, Liam Hughes to Liverpool and Josh Adam to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, James Forrest will hand the Hoops a boost when he returns to training next week.
The Scotland winger has been out of action for the last four months.
Forrest, 29, underwent surgery on an ankle injury and has been doing his rehab behind the scenes.
