Former Lioness Lianne Sanderson says England’s form declined under Phil Neville and he leaves them ‘in a strange place’

LIANNE SANDERSON reckons England experienced a dip in form during Phil Neville’s tenure as boss.
And the Sky Sports pundit believes the new Inter Miami coach’s departure has left the squad in a ‘strange place’.

The former Arsenal and Juve striker, 32, capped 50 times for England, was reacting to news of Neville’s exit.
Sanderson told Sky Sports News: “When he first got the job I was very much like ‘Yes! Phil Neville. It doesn’t matter if he has managed in the women’s game before.’
“He is an ex-player. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a woman in charge.
“I think a lot of people thought that it had to be a woman. I don’t believe in that I think it has to be the best person for the job.

“He had three years in charge and we have gone down the world’s rankings.
“Yes – we won the SheBelieves Cup in 2019 and that was a fantastic achievement beating the USA and Brazil.
“But the way that some of the performances have been, it looks like some of the players were not playing for him.”
With the ex-Red Devil, 43, off to the MLS, the FA hopes to identify two interim coaches to lead Great Britain’s women’s side at the Tokyo Olympics and the Lionesses until the Autumn.

In-coming England Women’s boss Sarina Wiegman is unable to commence her new role until after the Games in August, where she will coach Holland.

The Netherlands won Euro 2017 under the highly-rated boss and were runners-up at the 2019 World Cup.
And the 51-year-old currently holds the record for the most wins by a coach of a Netherlands national football team.
Sanderson added: “At this moment in time I think it (Neville’s departure) has left the England Women’s team in a bit of a strange place where they have to find an interim coach for the next few months until Sarina (Wiegman) takes over.”

Phil Neville confirmed as Inter Miami manager joining Man Utd pal David Beckham in MLS

PHIL NEVILLE has been confirmed as Inter Miami’s new manager.
The Manchester United legend’s exit from England Women paved the way for him to be installed by David Beckham at his MLS franchise.

The former England Women’s manager has reunited with his Man United pal David Beckham in the MLS

Neville’s early departure after three years at the Lionesses’ helm was confirmed by the FA on Monday.
And that allowed the 43-year-old to become Inter Miami’s second-ever manager following Diego Alonso’s dismissal.
He told the club’s website: “I am incredibly delighted for this opportunity to coach Inter Miami and to work with Chris and the entire ownership group.
“This is a very young club with a lot of promise and upside, and I am committed to challenging myself, my players and everyone around me to grow and build a competitive soccer culture we can all be proud of.

“This fantastic soccer-loving market deserves consistent performances and a winning mentality, and I look forward to getting to work.”

This is a very young club with a lot of promise and upside
    Phil Neville

Neville took England to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup, where they were narrowly edged out by the USA.
But the former Three Lions full-back came under sustained criticism after a series of disappointing performances and results.
The Lionesses have not played since last March, another contributory factor and while Neville had intended to see through his contract, the approach from Beckham proved too tempting for him to resist.

Becks added: “I have known Phil since we were both teenagers at the Manchester United Academy.
“We share a footballing DNA having been trained by some of the best leaders in the game, and it’s those values that I have always wanted running through our Club.

“Phil has deep experience in football, as a player and as a coach at both club and international level, and over his career he has worked with many of the finest managers and players in the game.
“I know his qualities as a person, his decency, loyalty and honesty – and his incredible energy and work ethic.
“Anyone who has played or worked with Phil knows he is a natural leader, and I believe now is the right time for him to join.”

Javier Hernandez’s wife Sarah Kohan denies being unfaithful to put marriage in jeopardy

THE stunning WAG of Javier Hernandez has hit out at claims her marriage to the LA Galaxy star could be on the rocks because she was unfaithful.
Pretty blonde Sarah Kohan tried to put a lid on rumours she cheated on him with an angry Instagram post rubbishing the reports.

The WAG hit back at gossipers with a racy Instagram post

She sought to put the record straight 24 hours after getting past Instagram censors with a full-frontal photo of her starkers amid speculation she had split with former Manchester United and West Ham frontman Hernandez.
The Mexican footballer is thousands of miles apart from mum-of-two Sarah, who is currently in her native Australia with their two children Noah and Nala.
Hernandez’s coach and friend Diego Drayfus has been at the centre of unfounded claims he and Sarah became close and put an end to an Instagram Live with fans where the subject was raised.
The Australian model insisted overnight: “For all the news outlets making up rumours about me, I would like to say that I have never been with another person physically or emotionally since I met Javier.

“Please stop with all the accusations insinuating that I have. That’s not the person I am. Please respect mine and my family’s privacy.”
Her angry outburst came after she told a TV reporter who quizzed her about the state of their relationship in a Los Angeles shopping centre outside her car before she left for Australia: “Can you please get away.
“My private life is private, it’s not for you guys to know about.”
Questions about the state of their relationship started surfacing a few weeks ago when fans picked up on the fact the couple appeared to have stopped posting photos of them together on their social media.

Law graduate and travel blogger Sarah, who has treated her 1.6 million followers to a string of raunchy shots of her figure over the years, has declined so far to address claims her marriage is in trouble.
Hernandez, nicknamed the Little Pea, is also said to have dodged questions about their relationship during a recent Instagram Live with fans.
The last photo Hernandez posted on his Instagram with his wife is thought to have been on October 23, sat on a park bench with their daughter Nala alongside the caption: “Our faces when they ask us, ‘When are you going to have the third?’”
Kohan and Hernandez started dating in 2018 and married in secret just a year later.
Their whirlwind romance continued with the birth of their first child, son Noah, in the summer of 2019.
Mexican international Hernandez is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer.

He spent four seasons at United before being loaned to Real Madrid and got the Spanish giants into the semi-finals of the 2015 Champions League with a goal against Atletico Madrid.
Sarah followed him to the States after he signed for LA Galaxy in January last year and they moved from Seville.
In November she attacked haters who were making ridiculous claims Diego Drayfus could be Noah’s dad.
She said: “I am sick and tired of getting messages telling me Noah’s father is Diego because he has blue eyes. His father is Javier.
“I was already pregnant with Noah when I met Diego for the first time in London.
“He has blue eyes because of genetics. My mum has the same blue eyes as him. End of story. Stop trolling my family.”

Wayne Rooney retires as Man Utd and England’s top goalscorer after calling time on his illustrious 18-year career

MANCHESTER UNITED and England legend Wayne Rooney has called time on his illustrious playing career to become manager of Derby County.
Rooney, 35, scored an all-time record 53 goals for England and is also United’s record scorer with 253.

He joined Derby in a player-coach capacity a year ago from MLS side DC United and made 35 appearances for the club.
Rooney had been interim manager at Derby since the club sacked Dutchman Phillip Cocu in November.
The Merseyside born striker began his playing career with boyhood club Everton, and announced himself on the English stage in spectacular fashion.
He was 16 years and 360 days old when he scored his first Premier League goal – for Everton against Arsenal in October 2002 – making him then the youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history.

Sven-Goran Eriksson gave Rooney his first England cap at just 17.
The teenager responded by lighting up Euro 2004 in his first major tournament appearance before being sidelined by an injury.
In the same summer he moved to Manchester United for £26million, breaking the record transfer fee for a teenager.
Rooney enjoyed great success at Old Trafford, and is the only player to have scored more than 250 goals for the Red Devils, eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton’s record in 2017.

He won five Premier League titles with Man Utd plus the Champions League in 2008.
In 2017 he returned to Everton, before moving to DC United in 2018.
Rooney was sadly never able to replicate his incredible displays at Euro 2004 at a future tournament, and was sent off during England’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to Portugal in 2006.
He did however become the Three Lions’ record goal-scoring with 53 strikes.
He is also England’s most capped outfield player, with 120 international appearances, five short of Peter Shilton’s overall record.
West Ham boss David Moyes gave Rooney his debut as a 16-year-old at Everton and also managed him at Old Trafford.
Moyes said: “I knew him as a boy and he was a tremendous young player, someone who we were amazed with his abilities for someone so young.
“From 16 onwards, we got him his debut and everyone knows his career from then. Manchester United’s leading goalscorer, England’s leading goalscorer. So he’s had an incredible career.

    Wayne Rooney’s playing career

Wayne Rooney has retired from playing after an illustrious 18-year career with the following clubs.

    Everton 2002-04
    Manchester United – 2004-17
    Everton – 2017-18
    DC United – 2018-20
    Derby County – 2020-21

“If he’s chosen to stop playing I’m sure it will be for the right reasons and because he wants his future to be in management.
“He’s going into a different world now completely and not all the best players have gone on to be the best managers.
“But Wayne’s love of the game, his drive, just his attitude will give him every chance of being successful.”
Rooney’s retirement was recognised by the England official Twitter account, which posted: “A #ThreeLions legend.
“Congratulations on a fantastic playing career, @WayneRooney! Wishing you all the best in management.”

How Inter Miami could line-up under Phil Neville including Everton’s Jonas Lossl and Mesut Ozil after MLS transfer hint

INTER MIAMI are expected to appoint Phil Neville as their next manager and he could bring two Premier League stars with him from England.
David Beckham is expected to give his old mate the nod and Neville could soon have Mesut Ozil and Everton’s Jonas Lossl at his disposal.

Phil Neville could have two new Premier League players to work with

He is on the brink of leaving England’s women’s team and being appointed Inter Miami boss

Former Manchester United man Neville will bring to an end almost three years in charge of England’s women’s team.
He is desperate to break into the men’s game and will take control of old pal Beckham’s MLS side who parted company with Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso last week
Miami are reportedly already in talks with Everton keeper Lossl.
They need a new goalkeeper for the 2021 campaign – likely to start in March – after refusing to extend veteran stopper Luis Robles’ contract.

Lossl is reportedly eager to quit Goodison Park after slipping to third in the pecking following the arrival of Robin Olsen.
The Miami Herald claim he wants game time to secure his place in Denmark’s squad for this summer’s European Championship.
Lossl has bounced between Everton and Huddersfield following an initial loan move to the Terriers in 2017.
He has failed to make a single appearance for the Toffees and even returned to Huddersfield on loan for the second half of last term.

Mesut Ozil could agree a switch to the MLS when his Arsenal deal runs out

Elsewhere, Arsenal outcast Ozil is reportedly open to a switch to the MLS when his current Gunners deal runs out at the end of season.
ESPN claim the German is open to joining a club Stateside and he is free to negotiate directly with overseas teams this month.
Ozil has been linked to D.C. United and LA Galaxy while Miami are also said to be monitoring his situation.
SunSport previously reported the playmaker is tempted by a move to the MLS over other offers as he could better manage his business activities.
Ozil has not played football since March and was axed from both of Arsenal’s 25-man squads for the top flight and Europa League.

In that time he has led the Lionesses to glory in the SheBelieves Cup and the World Cup semi-finals.
He will take control of old pal David Beckham’s MLS side who parted company with Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso last week.
Nev, 43, has been desperate to break into the men’s game and cannot wait to get cracking in South Florida.
A source told SunSport: “Phil wants to get started.

“This is a great opportunity for him. He’s buzzing.”
Neville, who has ditched plans to help lead Team GB at this summer’s Olympics, replaces Alonso following a disappointing first season.
Miami won just seven matches and although they sneaked into the play-offs, fellow newcomers Nashville thumped them 3-0 to compound a miserable campaign beset with behind-the-scenes problems.
Neville will have the likes of former Juventus stars Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi at his disposal when he takes over.

Barcelona ‘considering buying MLS franchise to help convince Lionel Messi to stay with new deal before heading to US’

BARCELONA would reportedly consider buying an MLS club to persuade Lionel Messi to stay with the club.
Blaugrana presidential hopeful Xavi Vilajoana is behind the plan to fit in wtih the star striker’s dream of playing in the United States.

Lionel Messi could see out his career in MLS after confirming his dream moveCredit: Getty Images – Getty

Messi’s contract runs out in June and, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain lurking, his future is up in the air.
He recently said he was very keen to move to the States and play in the MLS before he retires.
However this summer may be too early for the 33-year-old to head Stateside and AS report on a plan to keep the player in Spain until he is ready for the switch.
Vilajoana is said to want an MLS franchise under the Barcelona umbrella, allowing a seamless transition across the Atlantic when Messi desires.

The plan also involves re-signing Luis Suarez from Atletico Madrid to reunite the pair, who are best pals off the pitch and forged a hugely successful partnership on it.
Buying an MLS team would be a hugely expensive process.

When St Louis City and Sacramento Republic complete the 30-team league in 2023, no more franchises will be accepted – meaning Vilajoana would have to buy an existing team.
Manchester City could already offer such a route for Messi given their ties with New York City FC.

In fact, Barcelona attempted to land an MLS team under president Joan Laporta in 2009 but failed to agree a deal for a Miami-based club.
Messi has reportedly already purchased a plush apartment in the city with David Beckham’s Inter Miami one club linked with the superstar.
Speaking last month, the forward stated his desire to move to the USA.
He told La Sexta: “I always wanted to live in the United States.

“It is a great country and I would like to play in Major League Soccer at some point, but not at this moment in my career.”
Former president Laporta is back in the running to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu in the elections on January 24.
As the frontrunner for the post, the 58-year-old believes Messi will sign a new contract if he is part of a winning side.
Laporta told The Guardian last month: “I can only imagine him in a Barcelona shirt and I’ll do everything possible to ensure he continues.
“I know Leo and what he’s interested in is winning. The best players see immediately if the team is competitive.
“It’s not about money, never has been; if it had, he would have taken very different decisions throughout his career.”

Fellow candidate Agusti Benedito has admitted his ‘pessimism’ at keeping Messi past the summer.
He told ESPN: “I would have liked him to say in his interview the other week that his desire is to stay at the club, but he didn’t and now we have to wait and see.
“The truth is I am pessimistic. Remember that in August, he said he wanted to leave after 20 years and now he’s still not cleared up what he wants to do.
“The most likely outcome I see is that he leaves us in the summer.”

Ozil is free to speak to clubs abroad, now that he is in the last six months of his contract.
And according to football.london, DC United have offered the 32-year-old an ‘attractive’ package to join the club, with negotiations at an ‘advanced stage’.
The deal would include an expansion of the Gunners midfielder’s M10 brand around the States.
And Ozil’s ’39 Steps Coffee’ would also be distributed around their Audi Field Stadium.

The American side, where Wayne Rooney starred for two years, are convinced that the German can be the ‘face of their club’ moving forward.
They also plan to release a full Ozil merchandise line.
Arsenal’s former talisman hasn’t played in ten months, having been frozen out by boss Mikel Arteta.
Ozil failed to make the Spaniard’s 25-man Premier League or Europa League squads, but remains a vocal cheerleader for his team-mates on social media.

When asked about the situation recently, Arteta, 38, was non-committal in his response.
He said: “We will see what happens in the transfer window and we will assess at the end of that.
“You have to respect the players’ contracts.
