Neymar lashes out at Brazil fans supporting Argentina legend Lionel Messi in Copa America 2021 final

NEYMAR has blasted Brazilians who are throwing their weight behind Argentina ahead of the Copa America final. It is reported compatriots of the PSG and Brazil superstar – who are also Lionel Messi fans – will be cheering their nation’s fiercest rivals during their clash.

These include Brazilian sports TV journalist Fabiola Andrade.
She explained in an Instagram post: “Before stoning me in a public square, let me explain: I love Brazil, Brazilian football…I have several Argentine friends. But I’m not going to root for Argentina in the Copa America final because of them, no. I cheer because I love #football and @leomessi This guy needs to win a title with his country’s shirt! For justice!”
Brazil fans have struggled to get enthused by the tournament with a Covid pandemic raging and last-minute changes to the competition.
Many would also like to see Messi finally lift an international trophy with Argentina.
In an Instagram story Neymar, 29, wrote: “I am Brazilian with a lot of pride and love.
“My dream was always to be in the Brazil national team and hear the fans singing.
“I never attacked, nor will attack [Brazil] if they are competing for something, whether that is in sport, a modelling competition, the Oscars.
“If it’s Brazil I am Brazil, and who is Brazilian and does it differently
“It’s fine, I will respect it, but go to [hell]… those who are in opposition.”

The South American football titans will be going head-to-head for the regional championship crown in Brazil’s 78,000-seater Maracana stadium.
A victory for Neymar and his team-mates in Rio would see their country claim their tenth Copa crown and a second successive trophy win in the contest.
Neymar was forced to miss the 2019 Copa America due to an ankle ligament injury he sustained during a 2-0 friendly win against Qatar in June that year.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has scored twice and provided three assists in five games in this year’s competition.

However, the Brazil ace’s former Barcelona team-mate Messi is currently the contest’s leading scorer with four goals.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is on course to claim the tournament’s Golden Boot.
And Messi, who is yet to win a major international trophy with Argentina, is hoping to triumph in this year’s Copa America.

The Barcelona superstar was sent off in a third-place play-off against Chile in 2019 following an altercation with Gary Medel.
And the last Copa tournament win for his side was back in 1993 when he was six.
Meanwhile, some of Brazil’s players have echoed Neymar in urging their fans to get behind their team ahead of the mouthwatering duel between the two nations on Saturday.
These include the PSG ace’s club and country team-mate Marquinhos.

The centre-back, 27, said: “It is difficult [the situation] because we see so many Brazilians, so many people in the press who are against and simply do not support the Brazilian team, who have no pleasure and pride in seeing the team, in rooting for us.
“The fans, the journalists, the Brazilian people, no matter how difficult the moment we are living, could send positive energy, good energy because the national team is a source of pride for the Brazilian fans.
“From our part, we have tried to represent the team and the fans in the best possible way, giving everything on the pitch and that’s what we’ve been doing at the Copa America.”

Lionel Messi will be hoping to win his first ever Copa America
    THAT’S ALL FROM BRASILIA!
Argentina made it to the Copa America Final thanks to Emiliano Martinez’s heroics in an intense semi-final clash that ended with a penalty shoot-out.
The two teams drew 1-1 during normal period at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s opener for the Albiceleste and Luis Diaz’s equaliser.
Lionel Scaloni’s men opened the scoring after just seven minutes when Giovani Lo Celso’s wonderful through ball found Lionel Messi in the area and the captain passed back to Lautaro who beat David Ospina with a fine finish.
Colombia then missed three major chances to equalise, first with Juan Cuadrado who was played in the area thanks to Diaz and was denied by Martinez from close distance just a minute after the Argentines’ opener.
Then Wilmar Barrios fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box that caught a deflection off Lo Celso before hitting the left-hand post.
A minute later Yerry Mina got a header from a corner-kick and forced a spectacular save from the Aston Villa goalkeeper, who lunged towards his top left corner.
Argentina then came close to doubling their lead when Nicolas Gonzalez picked up a header from Messi’s corner-kick but was denied by Ospina from close range.
Colombia finally got their equaliser on 61 minutes when Edwin Cardona played Diaz down the left flank and the Porto star completely outran Gonzalo Montiel to beat Martinez from a tight angle.
Argentina then missed an incredible opportunity to regain the lead when Daniel Munoz lost the ball in midfield and Ospina foolishly came off his area after 74 minutes.
Angel Di Maria dribbled past the Colombia goalkeeper and passed to Lautaro whose shot was blocked on the goal line by Barrios.
Then Messi hit Ospina’s right-hand post after a beautiful through ball by Di Maria in the 80th minute.
The penalty shoot-out was as dramatic as the rest of the match with Rodrigo De Paul missing for Argentina following a dreadful shot that went over the crossbar.
But Albiceleste goalkeeper Martinez ended up being the hero as he denied Davinson Sanchez and Mina as well as Cardona’s critical spot kick.
Messi, Leandro Paredes and Lautaro were all on target whereas Cuadrado and Miguel Borja were the only ones who scored for Colombia.
That led to a 3-2 win for Argentina on penalties and now Scaloni’s men are set to face bitter rivals Brazil on Saturday at the Maracana Stadium.
Colombia, on the other hand, will take on Peru in the third-place play-off the night before.

Argentina 3 Ecuador 0: Watch Lionel Messi extend free-kick record over Cristiano Ronaldo in stunning Copa America show

LIONEL MESSI led Argentina to the Copa America semi-finals thanks to another masterful performance against Ecuador – and extended his free-kick goalscoring record over Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi had already set up the other two when he scored a stunner in stoppage time to bring the Albiceleste just one step away from the final.

Lionel Scaloni’s men dominated throughout the encounter at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico Stadium, especially in the first half where they created a raft of goalscoring opportunities.
The Argentines came close to opening the scoring on 14 minutes when Lautaro Martinez got the ball inside the box and flicked it over Hernan Galindez before producing a volley that was blocked by Robert Arboleda.
Then captain Messi picked up a horrendous loose ball by El Tri’s defence and failed to beat Galindez when his one-on-one effort bounced back off the left-hand post after 23 minutes.
But Argentina finally got the goal five minutes before half-time when Galindez clashed with Nicolas Gonzalez on the edge of the box and that allowed Messi to set Rodrigo de Paul up in front of an open goal.
Gonzalez then failed to beat the Ecuador goalkeeper twice from close range, first with a header and then with a shot that forced a couple of incredible saves, after 45 minutes.
Gustavo Alfaro’s men had a couple of chances to get on the score sheet as well.
First with Enner Valencia and Angel Mena who failed to get a touch in front of the open goal following a crisp cross from the left in the 38th minute.
Then ex-West Ham striker Valencia failed to equalise when Mena crossed him the ball from the right flank as his poor header went out for a goal kick.

Argentina sealed their safe passage in the second half when Piero Hincapie lost the ball at the back before Messi set Martinez up in front of Galindez and the Inter Milan star made no mistake on 84 minutes.
The Albiceleste thought they would then score from the penalty spot when the referee believed Hincapie brought Angel Di Maria down inside the box.
However, VAR showed that the challenge took place at the edge of the area and thus the defender was sent off before the official awarded Argentina a free-kick.

That is when unemployed Messi fired his brilliant curling shot into the top corner in the third minute of stoppage time to seal another triumph for Scaloni’s side and 76th international goal in a record 149 caps.
It was his 58th career direct free-kick – his previous one coming earlier in the Copa America – taking him two clear of rival Ronaldo and placing him just four short of hero Diego Maradona.
But that tally, which includes 50 for Barcelona and eight for his national team, leaves Messi 19 short of Brazilian Juninho’s all-time record of 77.
Argentina are now set to face Colombia in the semi-finals next week after Reinaldo Rueda’s men eliminated Uruguay on penalties.

Colombia made it through to the Copa America semi-finals after beating Uruguay in a penalty shoot-out at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia.
Napoli star, and former Arsenal goalkeeper, David Ospina proved to be the hero of the night as he saved two penalties to help his country make the final four for the first time since 2016.
The two sides endured a goalless and quite hapless encounter that saw both Ospina and Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera enjoying a relatively uneventful evening.
Federico Valverde almost set Edinson Cavani up in front of open goal with a through ball from the right wing on 42 minutes but Yerry Mina got his foot on the way right in the nick of time.
Colombia then came close three minutes later as Duvan Zapata’s shot from a tight angle was saved by Muslera and Luis Muriel’s shot went widesoon after.
The second half was more interesting as Nahitan Nandez fired a curling effort from the right flank that forced an intense right-hand save from Ospina, who was caught off guard in the 50th minute.
Colombia then picked up the pace and came inches away from an opener after 73 minutes when Santos Borre delivered a crisp cross from the right flank and found Zapata whose header was denied by Muslera’s right leg.
However, none of the two sides were able to break the deadlock and so the game went straight to a penalty shoot-out.
Zapata, Davinson Sanchez, Mina and Miguel Borja all hit the back of the net with Muslera unable to make a single save.
Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez were on target for Uruguay but Ospina denied Jose Gimenez and Matias Vina’s spot-kicks and led his country to the semi-finals
