SPRINT star Ayanda Malaza suffered a heartbreaking injury during his bid for glory at the Commonwealth Games.The 19-year-old broke down in tears as he was removed from the track in a wheelchair after pulling up in his 100m heat on Tuesday.

Malaza, from Eswatini, looked to be in discomfort as he set off from the blocks.
The race had already suffered a false start when Nigeria’s Godson Oke Oghenebrume began too early.
And Malaza unfortunately tweaked something the second time around.
He collapsed to the ground as his rivals continued their surge towards the finish line.

Malaza could be seen clutching his hamstring as he waved his arm for attention.
And medics quickly rushed to the scene as Malaza began crying.
There was no chance of the star being able to walk off the track.
And so a wheelchair was brought out to transport Malaza away for further treatment.

As he approached the end of the race, the long-distance specialist went the wrong way to leave the BBC Sport commentary team shocked.
With an aerial shot showing Kiplangat going the opposite direction, Steve Cram said: “Oh has he gone the wrong way? Oh no, no, no, no, no.”
Blaming the event organisers, he added: “It isn’t his fault. There is a blue line and he followed the vehicle… There should have been a lead bike. That is terrible.”
Paula Radcliffe then remarked: “I think he may have been focused on the bike ahead of him.

“Often the blue line can disappear too just because they haven’t marked out a particular section, and it is a dash not a solid blue line.
“He didn’t notice it had gone the other side of the median down the middle of the road, then of course when he did realise he couldn’t get through the barriers and just cross over, he actually had to double back.”
Thankfully for Kiplangat, he had built up a lengthy lead as he finished one minute and 34 seconds ahead of Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu.
And the runner confirmed after his victory that he was left confused in the final stretch of the race.

Kiplangat continued: “I believe Uganda is proud of me today. We have been waiting for this.

Kiplangat claimed the gold medal with a time of 2:10:55, just short of the Games record of 2:09.12 set by England’s Ian Thompson in 1974.

A decision not to bring a spare tyre backfired and England team-mate Johnboy Smith overtook before clinching the title in Birmingham city centre.
Weir, 43, gallantly completed the race and finished in seventh place. He said: “I’ve not had much luck lately in major championships.
“My last ten weeks of training have been the best in years. I have felt like I was ten years younger. It’s frustrating.

The proud Aussie has had to endure several setbacks in her career, from disappointing at the Rio 2016 Olympics to a three-year injury lay-off.
Jenneke has suffered from hamstring, ankle and back injuries but was back with a bang at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon earlier this month.
First the Aussie posted a time of 12.84 seconds in the heats – her fastest time in seven years.
She then topped that season best with a personal best of 12.66 in the semi-final, but her 11th place was not enough to see her into the final.

Jenneke was delighted with her performance nonetheless and coincidentally her semi-final time bettered the winning time of Tobi Amusan at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Amusan remains the woman to beat after winning gold in the World Championships with a blistering time of 12.06 – but Jenneke will be hopeful of pushing for a podium place.
