RYAN REYNOLDS’ dream of owning an ice hockey team collapsed prior to his venture into Formula One.
He and fellow actor Rob McElhenney have joined forces again to purchase a 24 per cent stake in the Alpine F1 team for £171million.
It adds to their growing sports portfolio as they are also chiefs at League Two side Wrexham.
Reynolds has been keen to branch out into a new sport away from football and he was in the running to buy the Ottawa Senators.
The NHL side are for sale after owner Eugene Melnyk died last year.
Reynolds was keen to purchase the team and join in a consortium with real estate developers The Remington Group.

Their reported bid was valued at more than £786m.
However, the Canadian star withdrew his offer at the final hour after he was denied a request for an extension as he looked to secure a new stadium for the ice hockey outfit.
Prior to pulling out, Reynolds met with the mayor of Ottawa and attended a Senators game.
Businessman Michael Andlauer now looks set to purchase the club.

Reynolds’ bid is set to beat offers coming from two different consortiums involving rapper Snoop Dogg and pop star The Weeknd, who were both reportedly interested in the Senators.
For now, his focuses are on Wrexham following their promotion from the National League as champions and Alpine, who sit fifth in the constructors standings.
Speculation suggests Reynolds’ net worth is valued at £282million.
