Man Utd ratings: Mason Greenwood deservedly hauled off as Bruno Fernandes tries in vain to spark comeback

SHEFFIELD UNITED dealt Manchester United a massive blow in the Premier League title race.

The Blades took a first half lead through Kean Bryan before Harry Maguire equalised against his old club.

But, just as it seemed the inevitable Red Devils comeback was on, Olivier Burke’s strike deflected in to earn Chris Wilder’s strugglers a shock win.

Here is how Jordan Davies rated United’s stars…

DAVID DE GEA – 6

Was clearly shoved in the back by Billy Sharp as Sheffield United went ahead from a close-range corner, but still should have done better to punch clear.

Had little to do other than picking the ball out of his net, twice.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 6

Was relatively solid at the back but, once again this season, when United needed him to be that creative spark down the flanks, he wasn’t.

Too often he decided to pass backwards – a facet of his game he needs to improve quickly to keep his place moving forward.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 7

Was unlucky to see his aerial challenge with Aaron Ramsdale that could have led to an earlier equaliser blown up for a foul.

Made up for it in style with a powerful header to grab his first ever at Old Trafford for United, but his dithering on the ball late on led to the Blades equaliser.

AXEL TUANZEBE – 6

A late replacement pre-match for the injured Eric Bailly and did everything that was asked for him.

But was dealt a cruel blow on his Premier League debut for United as he deflected Oliver Burke’s effort and winner into the net.

ALEX TELLES – 6

Coming in to replace Luke Shaw was always going to be tough going with the form of the England international in recent weeks.

But his assist for Maguire’s header from a corner shows United have great options in that position.

PAUL POGBA – 6

Struggled to impose himself as much as he has done in the past few games, and was sloppy with his passing in the first half.

And when United needed him in the second half, he seemed to drift off into the distance – much like the majority of his United career.

NEMANJA MATIC – 6

Brought into the side to add some physicality, but was often outrun in midfield and failed to link-up with Pogba as much as he should have.

His lack of mobility was a real problem in attack and defence for United.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 7

Once again, the one player in the side trying to create and daring to take risks – this time to no avail.

Will be wondering more than most why some of his teammates were rested to the detriment of the team’s ability up top.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 6

Had very little ball to work with, and when he did, he was wasteful, but in truth, the blame should not lie with him.

That relationship he normally has with Edinson Cavani was badly needed.

MASON GREENWOOD – 5

Where has the real Mason gone? After a blistering start to his senior career at United, the wonderkid has gone quiet, as has his attributes.

Subbed off in the 66th minute for Cavani – and there were no complaints.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 6

Lacking in everything, and really should have took the game by the scruff of the neck when the tempo was lacking.

One game he is awesome, the other he is average. Based on that, he should not be starting in games of this magnitude when United need to keep momentum going.

EDINSON CAVANI (FOR GREENWOOD, 66)

LUKE SHAW (FOR TELLES 82)

DONNY VAN DE BEEK (FOR TUANZEBE 83)
