Man Utd ‘contact’ RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate over transfer despite him being injured for most of season

MANCHESTER UNITED are in talks with the agent of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate about a summer switch, it’s claimed.

The player’s representative reportedly approached Old Trafford chiefs about his availability – despite him being sidelined for much of the season with a leg injury.

Konate played for the German side in the Champions League this term.

They knocked Spurs out in the last 16.

He has also helped them battle Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga until the coronavirus stalled the season.

The 20-year-old Frenchman joined Leipzig from Sochaux in 2017.

But his campaign was curtailed by a leg muscle injury he suffered in October.

According to French outlet Le 10 Sport, Konate’s agent is trying to tie up a deal with the Manchester club.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for back-up to his preferred central defensive pairing of £85million man Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
United have also been linked with a move for a striker.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, plus Lyon’s Moussa Dembele have been linked.

Solskjaer clinched the signing of £55m midfielder Bruno Fernandes in January.

But he wants younger players to revolutionise Old Trafford and build a new era at the club.

Konate fits that bill as he has established himself as one of the most exciting young prospects in the Bundesliga.
