Ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has fans in stitches with cheeky answer when asked who he’d take to tropical island

FORMER England boss Sven Goran Eriksson had fans in stitches when asked who he would like to bring with him to a desert island.

The Swede, 70, was well known for scoring away from the pitch during his five-year spell in charge of the Three Lions.

He was involved in three high-profile relationships during that time – with Nancy Dell’Olio, Ulrika Jonsson and Faria Alam.

Fans look back fondly on Sven and his perceived womanising ways – and his cheeky grin when asked a routine question on Sky Sports this morning gave fans a fun touch of nostalgia.

Appearing on The Football Show on Sky Sports, presenter David Jones asked him who he would take with him if he was to be stuck on a desert island.

And Sven replied: “Wow.

“Well if I can only take one person, must I take a football player?

“A man…?”

He then offered a knowing grin before laughing in front of the camera.

And the rest of the panel, consisting of Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp, were instantly in fits of laughter.

Repeated shouts of “Go on Sven” were heard directed at the popular manager, who played along – playfully smiling away.

“He don’t mess about!” came another cry from the panellists.

Sven appears to have made peace with his reputation, but has previously admitted that he struggled with the limelight off the pitch when he first came to England.

He told the HISTORY channel back in 2018: “I thought I was prepared for England but I was not prepared for things outside football, my private life.

“I am not very proud that fans could probably name three of my former girlfriends.

“I don’t think it damaged my football results. But my image outside football it damaged, yes.”

But having managed England to the last eight at three major tournaments, he clearly remains a popular figure on these shores 14 years after his departure from the Three Lions hotseat.

He has since had an eclectic Indian Summer to his career, popping up in Asia in recent years at Guangzhou R&F, Shanghai SIPG, Shenzhen and most recently, the Phillippines.
