Chelsea staff begged David Luiz to return just days after Arsenal transfer but Brazilian followed his head over heart

DAVID LUIZ has revealed that Chelsea staff begged him to return to Stamford Bridge just days after his shock transfer to Arsenal.

The 32-year-old has admitted he missed life with the Blues but insisted he can still achieve “big things” at the Emirates.

Luiz switched to London rivals Arsenal for £8million last summer after his second spell with Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender admitted he missed his trophy-laden career with the Blues at first, having won the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz’s glory days at Chelsea are a stark contrast to the Gunner’s limp form this season but the centre-back insists he has no regrets over his move and wants to achieve “big, big things” at the Emirates.

Luiz told OTRO: “I can be honest with you, the first three days or week was not easy to understand all the emotions or how I was feeling, because everybody knows my history with Chelsea.

“I had this connection with everyone at the club. It was so massive and big and I was missing every single one.

“Every text message I was receiving, people were saying, ‘Come back, come back, come back, come back, we are here for you’.

“I give you the example of a gentleman there who is 75 years old. He was taking breakfast with me at the time when he had the opportunity.

“He was texting me, ‘I am still waiting for you here to take the breakfast again’.

“This kind of thing was so difficult for me, because I am someone that sees the heart as the most important thing.

“But then after that, in the professional way, I was saying, ‘It is a new moment for you. It is another big thing for you to do. Maybe if you stay in the comfort zone it is not going to be the best thing for you?'”

Luiz has been a regular for Arsenal in the Premier League this season, starting 25 of their 28 games and chipping in with two goals.
