    Why has Soccer AM been cancelled?

    SKY SPORTS fan’s favourite Soccer AM is set to be axed at the end of the season.The Saturday morning football show has been on the air for nearly 30 years.

    Why has Soccer AM been axed?
    Staff were told the unfortunate news that the show would be coming to an end and that they would be made redundant in May.
    A source told the Sun: “It was a complete bombshell.
    “Morale is at an all-time low, they are raging.
    “It’s going to be an interesting watch over the next few weeks.”

    A Sky Spokesperson has said: “Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.
    “We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people.
    “We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway.”

    Who presents Soccer AM?
    Soccer AM is presented by former Wigan Athletic and Hull City star Jimmy Bullard.
    He is joined on the presenting team by John ‘Fenners’ Fendley.
    The show was first presented by Russ Williams and Helen Chamberlin.
    Then in 1996, Helen was joined by Tim Lovejoy, and the two formed a well-loved partnership.
    The iconic pairing is the duo that most people associate with the show.
    Lovejoy left the show in 2007 after 11 years in the job, while Chamberlin presented Soccer AM up until 2017.
    Former Soccer AM presenter, Lovejoy, discussed his relationship with the show with the Atheltic in 2020: “I stopped watching it when I left, it was too hard to watch it.
    “I tune in every now and then because Fenners is on it and I want to support him.
    “Again, another crap analogy, it’s like watching your old girlfriend with another man.
    “I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t watch it. So I stopped watching it totally.
    “And then I started tuning in again to watch Fenners, because obviously I worked with him for years and he’s a top bloke.

      Eni Aluko to host Women’s Football Awards as heroes of the game set for honours

      FOOTBALL star Eni Aluko is set to host a major event celebrating the achievements of women in football.The Women’s Football Awards, which will take place in May, will celebrate the people, brands and organisations who are contributing to the phenomenal growth of the sport.

      Former Chelsea and England international legend Eni plus Sky Sports presenter Jamie Carragher will take the helm at the bash and will be joined by leading personalities from the women’s game, male football allies and celebrities.  
      It is the first time that all levels of women’s football will be recognised at one flagship event and it will pay tribute to grassroots greatness as well as national and international superstars of the women’s game.
      The event, which is sponsored by SHEIN, comes ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup and has been backed by England internationals Beth Mead, Jess Carter, Nikita Parris and Toni Duggan.
      Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Scotland forward Caroline Weir has given her support to the initiative as has Everton star Conor Coady and Sky Sports News anchors Pete Graves and Hayley McQueen.

      Award categories include Player of the Year, International Football Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Grassroots Initiative of the Year, Lifetime Achievement as well as a series of accolades for people and brands working behind the scenes to expand the reach of women’s football.
      Eni, who made 102 appearances for the England national team and is now a leading women’s football broadcaster, said: “The Women’s Football Awards is going to be an event of celebration that will shine a light on players, individuals and organisations doing phenomenal work to grow the women’s game.
      “The awards will be an important platform to recognise the key players and allies both on and off the pitch, who have raised the bar for women’s football. I’m delighted to be hosting with Jamie Carragher, it is going to be a special night.”
      Arsenal and England international Beth Mead said: “The Women’s Football Awards will celebrate the success of women in football in the UK and all over the world.

      This gave Paris Saint-Germain forward Messi the opportunity to appear in his very first acting role on a TV show.
      And he appeared to be soaking up the new venture in the video as he smiled and laughed his way through the shoot.
      Messi has been named as a “special guest” on the show, although it is not yet clear how much he will be in the programme.
      The second season of Los Protectores, which is due to be aired in 2023, continues to follow three football agents who “face an unexpected threat to their business”.

      OLD Firm WAGS have been asked by a TV company about being in a Footballers’ Wives style reality show.A number of wives and girlfriends of Celtic and Rangers players have reportedly been contacted about the show by Mentorn Media.

      The women originally believed the offer to be a hoax and raised it with bosses at the Glasgow clubs.
      It is believed both sides are reluctant for the women to be involved with the show.
      A source told The Daily Record: “Most of them have made it clear it’s not something they’re interested in doing. Being the other half of a Rangers or Celtic player can be hard enough even at the best of times.
      “They can rarely walk back to their car after a bad result without fans having a pop or some so-called banter.”
      They added: “It would be a surprise if any of them were interested in taking part in this project.”
      It is believed Mentorn want to make the programme for BBC Scotland.

      What is Wayne Rooney doing now?
      Wayne Rooney is now the manager of Championship club Derby County, where he was previously an interim player-manager.
      Derby County were handed a points deduction at the start of the season after entering administration, which saw them start the season 12 points behind the competition.
      They were then handed a further nine point deduction, for breaching the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.
      Rooney’s Derby have now moved off of the bottom of the Championship table, on 15 points, and would hypothetically be in 16th place had they not had a deduction.
      Doing such a good job so far, Rooney was offered the recently open Everton managerial position, but turned it down to try and save Derby. The position has now been fulfilled by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. More

      I missed Leonard-Duran II and Hagler-Duran but the magnificent seven I did see are indelibly imprinted in my memory, though they took place four decades ago.

      Leonard had regained his title and reputation but easily his most sensational victory was when his hand and foot speed, plus his ring savvy, completely bamboozled Hagler to earn a memorable 12-round split decision to win the world middleweight crown.
      Sugar Ray came out of retirement having had one fight in five years — Hagler who hadn’t been beaten for 11 years never fought again.
      Those of us ringside in Las Vegas when Hagler defended against Hearns will never forget the first round — claimed to be the most ferocious opening three minutes of all time. As the bell sounded, they leapt at each other like a couple of ravenous lions fighting over a carcass.
      Blood cascaded down Hagler’s face from a deep gash in his forehead.
      Concerned referee Richard Steele asked, “Can you see, Marvin?” Hagler’s terse reply was, “I’m not missing him, am I?” before knocking out Hearns in the third round.
      The Kings highlights the very best of boxing as well as the worst.
      Apart from Hagler, who retired at 33, sadly the others carried on far past their best and got themselves beaten up by inferior opponents.
      I found The Kings as mesmerising as When They Were Kings, the documentary about the Ali-Foreman Rumble in the Jungle saga that won an Oscar 26 years ago — and I can’t give it higher praise than that.

England will face Italy in their biggest game in more than half a century on Sunday, with record-breaking viewing figures predicted to smash those for the 1966 World Cup final.

      Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Football is coming home and so is a record TV audience.”

      Supermarket tills will have taken £2.3 billion and more than £815 million will have been spent in pubs.
      An estimated £563 million is expected to be splashed around Sunday’s final.

      “Meanwhile, we’ve seen a whopping £10 million bet on England winning Euro 2020 out of £18m in total, which suggests confidence in football coming home is at an all-time high.”
