Ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel ‘is open to taking England job’ after shock Stamford Bridge sacking

THOMAS TUCHEL would be open to taking the England manager’s job, according to reports. The German was suddenly sacked by Chelsea’s new owners in September and replaced by Graham Potter.

But after a month out of the game, Bild in Germany report Tuchel would consider the Three Lions gig if it became available at some stage in the future after the World Cup.
Gareth Southgate is under the biggest pressure he has faced in his six years as head coach of the national team.
England are winless in six matches going into next month’s winter tournament.
And there is some suggestion Southgate could walk away from the job after Qatar 2022, regardless of how far his side go – although his contract runs until December 2024.

Tuchel’s successor Potter remains the favourite to be the next England manager, despite just signing a £50million, five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pochettino and Steve Cooper are also among the likeliest candidates.
Like Tuchel, Poch is a free agent because he remains currently out of work since leaving PSG.
Tuchel, though, could be a more suitable candidate considering his record in knockout competitions.

The 49-year-old won the DFB-Pokal with Dortmund, the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue at PSG then the Champions League and Club World Cup as Chelsea boss.
He also has runner-up medals from five further major finals.
Tuchel – who reportedly rejected an offer to take over at Bayer Leverkusen – said of his Blues exit: “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years.
“I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end.

“This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally.
“Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.
“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever.
“I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and whatever the future holds for me, the memories of the last 18 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

Ex-Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui REJECTS Wolves as club continue search for Bruno Lage replacement

But ex-Real Madrid boss Lopetegui has decided against a move to the Black Country, partly due to his father suffering from ill health.
He was sacked by Sevilla on Wednesday following the 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund and had become the clear frontrunner to succeed axed Bruno Lage.
Lopetegui almost became Wolves boss way back in 2016.
He had agreed to replace Kenny Jackett before the deal collapsed at the 11th hour after he was offered the chance to manage the Spanish national team.

However, he was dramatically sacked just before the 2018 World Cup after he agreed to take over at the Bernabeu.
Wolves will now approach other targets in the coming days.
Former Olympiacos chief Pedro Martins is the bookies’ favourite now ahead of Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.
Under-18s manager Steve Davis and under-21s chief James Collins took charge of the club for their 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.

The duo are now also set to lead Wolves into their home game with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Wolves currently sit slumped in the relegation zone.
Their tally of six points from nine matches – with one win and three draws – is only better than this weekend’s opponents Forest and Leicester. More

Chelsea plan to speak to Brighton about Graham Potter as Boehly draws up three man manager shortlist to replace Tuchel

CHELSEA are planning to speak to Brighton today about the availability of manager Graham Potter after the shock sacking of Thomas Tuchel.Blues owner Todd Boehly ruthlessly sacked Tuchel, 49, following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener.

The decision follows an indifferent start to the season which has seen losses at Leeds United and Southampton before the European disappointment on Tuesday.
However, the new Chelsea owners celebrating 100 days in control, may well have dismissed the German regardless of the result in Croatia as part of their long-term vision.
It also comes after a stunning summer in which Boehly smashed the record for spending by one club in a single window to back Tuchel to the tune of £259.1million, only to sack him six days after deadline day.
Brighton boss Potter is thought to have a strong chance of landing the job following their flying start to the season.

The south-coast side, who beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season, have won four of six games so far and sit fourth, three points ahead of Chelsea.
Blues chiefs are hoping to open talks with the Seagulls over hiring the English manager.

Potter, 47, spent seven years as manager of Ostersund in Sweden before a season at Swansea.
He took over from Chris Hughton at the Amex in 2019 and has steadily improved the side throughout his time at the club.

It is understood the Argentine would also be open to talking with Chelsea about taking over in the dugout at Stamford Bridge. More

Wales U21s boss Paul Bodin is sacked after Euros qualifying flop which saw the Dragons finish fourth in their group

PAUL BODIN has been axed as Wales Under-21 manager. The ex-Swindon left-back saw his side finish fourth in their Euro qualifying campaign last month, 15 points behind group winners the Netherlands.

Bodin had been in charge since August 2019 when Robert Page left his role to help the senior squad.
The 57-year-old, who was previously Under-17s chief, signed a four-year deal then but Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney is now on the lookout for a new boss.
Bodin’s departure will be a blow for Page, who has yet to agree a new contract with the FAW beyond the World Cup.
SunSport revealed last Sunday that Wales’ talent identity manager Gus Williams is also on the brink of joining Blackburn as head of recruitment.

And former Premier League midfielder Edwards, who started out with Aston Villa before joining with Wolves, Blackpool and Barnsley, fits the criteria.
He retired from playing in 2013 and had a brief time in interim charge at Wolves before managing Telford United, Wolves Under-23s, England U16s and then joined Forest Green in 2021.
The 15-cap former Wales international has just led the West Country side to the League Two title, earning them promotion into League One for the first time in their 133-year history.

The extraordinary sequence of events happened during a regional first division match between Madrid sides Villanueva del Pardillo and Colmenar Viejo.
The home team had equalised with a 83rd minute goal before their chance of a late winner was snatched away by the anti-sporting gesture.
Villanueva del Pardillo FC tweeted after the match finished: “Great game which was tarnished by the actions of the rival manager which we consider contrary to fair play and the values of football.”

“Our assistant made a mistake and expressed his total regret immediately over what had occurred.
“Once the match had finished, a club representative who was present in the ground personally said sorry in the name of the club to representatives of Villanueva del Pardillo who we are on good terms with and always have been.
“This apology is something we now make publicly.”
The club did not say in its statement it would be taking any disciplinary action against the assistant manager, who has not been officially identified but has been named locally as Ivan Abad Munoz.
Regional league bosses are expected to announce a stiff penalty in the coming days, although there has been no suggestion so far the team prevented from continuing their counter-attack will be given the three points instead of having to settle for one.
An angered Villanueva del Pardillo player took to social media after the incident to say: “For this to happen in football shows peoples’ values.
“If the club this man represents wants to demonstrate it has values, they should oust this person.”
Another sports fan added: “He should have his licence taken away and the other team should be given the three points.” More

Man Utd ‘confident’ of landing Mauricio Pochettino and PSG manager ‘is willing to join IMMEDIATELY’

MANCHESTER UNITED are ‘confident’ of appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager, according to reports. And the Argentine is thought to be willing to make the move to Old Trafford immediately rather than at the end of the season.

The Red Devils need to bring in a new boss after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.
And Paris Saint-Germain chief Pochettino is high on their wishlist.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, United feel they are on course to secure a deal to land the ex-Tottenham gaffer soon.
However, it would cost the Old Trafford club £10million in compensation to PSG for them to release him from his contract at the Parc des Princes – although that halves to £5m when he enters the final 12 months of his deal in the summer.
Added to the £7.5m pay-off Solskjaer received and payments for under-contract coaches, the total cost of the managerial change could be close to £20m.
The MEN report adds that United have not yet made an official approach for Poch, who is in Manchester ahead of his side’s Champions League clash against City tomorrow.

Pochettino is said to be ‘unhappy’ in Paris, still living in a hotel with his family back in London.
United were planning to bring in an interim manager until the end of the season before trying to land Pochettino or Brendan Rodgers.
But now it looks as though they may make the permanent appointment imminently with Poch keen on a mid-season switch.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly working his magic to try and lure the 49-year-old – who was linked with replacing Jose Mourinho in 2018 – to Manchester.
Former United forward Mark Hughes, who has 610 matches under his belt as a manager, told the Old Trafford club to do all they can to land the former Southampton gaffer.
Hughes told talkSPORT: “For a long time, United have coveted Pochettino, they’ve wined and dined him, I think he’s been out with Sir Alex.
“He’s well thought of at United so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s the one they really want.
If Pochettino is the man, they should just go out and get himMark Hughes
“Whether he’s able to come to the club quickly, that’s an issue.
“United are clearly one of the few clubs who have the resources to get a top manager out of a top club.

“I think if he’s the man, they should just go out and get him!”
Pochettino only took the PSG job in January, replacing Thomas Tuchel.
And Pochettino’s possible departure could pave the way for Zinedine Zidane to take over as boss.
Zizou rejected the approaches from United as he holds out for either the PSG or France gigs and reports now suggest PSG’s players are readying themselves for his ‘imminent’ arrival.

Man Utd will have to pay PSG £10MILLION compensation to get Mauricio Pochettino now… with fee halving in summer

MANCHESTER UNITED must stump up £10million in compensation to Paris Saint-Germain to land Mauricio Pochettino now, according to reports. But that figure halves at the end of this season.

It would cost the Red Devils £10m to get Poch out of PSG before the end of the seasonCredit: Getty
Poch, 49, is currently still in charge at PSG, having taken over from Thomas Tuchel last season.
But reports suggest the Argentine would be willing to walk away from the Parc des Princes in order to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford immediately, rather than waiting until the summer.
And while that would mean United would not need to appoint an interim boss for the rest of the campaign, it is understood the mid-season switch would cost them an extra £5m.
According to the Mirror, Pochettino’s release package cuts by 50 per cent in the summer when he enters the final year of his PSG contract.
But if both United and Poch are keen to get a deal done before that, it is likely the Red Devils would stump up the extra cash.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly working his magic to try and lure Poch – who was linked with replacing Jose Mourinho in 2018 – to Manchester permanently.

The former Southampton and Spurs boss is currently in the north-west because PSG take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
Poch’s family are still based in London rather than moving across to Paris with him which is another contributing factor in his desire to return to the Premier League.
He is also struggling on the pitch, too, after missing out on the Ligue 1 title last season and now trying to cope with big egos in the squad.
Zinedine Zidane was initially linked with the vacancy at United.
However, reports now suggest PSG’s players are readying themselves for his ‘imminent’ arrival as the new manager.
Zidane rejected the approaches from United as he holds out for either the PSG or France gigs.
And free-agent Zizou could be back in the managerial hot seat soon if Poch resigns, despite only taking the job in January.
