Ex-Brazil star Daniel Carvalho reveals he used to guzzle EIGHT litres of Coca-Cola a day as he opens up on weight issues

FORMER Brazil football star Daniel Carvalho revealed he used to drink EIGHT litres of Coca-Cola every day.Carvalho – who is more famously known for his spell at Russia side CSKA Moscow – put on weight during his seven-year stint in the Russian capital.
Daniel Carvalho – in action against Arsenal in 2006 – has revealed he used to drink EIGHT litres a day
And people picked up on his weight when he returned to his home country of Brazil back in 2008.
Carvalho has admitted that his weight gain in fact came from his addiction to drinking fizzy drinks.
Whilst house hunting after joining Criciuma back in 2013, the former Brazil international was stopped by an old man in the streets asking if he was Carvalho.
The midfielder jokingly responded with “no”, which the old man followed up with: “Yeah, really, Daniel Carvalho is a lot fatter.”
Carvalho’s perceived image is one he regrets, but insists gaining weight happens to a lot of football players.
Speaking to Arena SportV back in 2013, he said: “I left Internacional when I was 19-years-old and returned to Brazil, on loan at Inter, when I was 26.
“It’s no use, we end up developing. Many people expected me to physically return with the same body as when I left.
“Without a doubt I won’t be able to go back to being that little boy who was very skinny, skinny.
Without a doubt I won’t be able to go back to being that little boy who was very skinny, skinny.Daniel Carvalho
“Everyone created an image of me thinking I came back with the same weight, but that can’t happen.
“It’s normal. not just with me, but with most players who left and returned.”
The 38-year-old also admitted that he never hid his addiction to fizzy drinks, and has reduced his consumption of Coca-Cola.
He continued: “I know there are a lot of nasty people.
“I’ve always made it clear: my only addiction, which I’ve managed to reduce a lot, is Coca-Cola.
    “I never hid it.”
His most shocking revelation of of the interview was the sheer scale of Coca-Cola the midfielder used to consume.
Carvalho admitted to drinking six to eight litres of Coca-Cola a DAY.
He said: “I drank six to eight litres of Coca-Cola a day. Now I’m getting better, I practically drink a can a day and look there.

“At 30 years old, I can’t expect me to be as prepared as when I was 20.
“So, we have to start taking care of ourselves.
“I had some problems in recent years, which I managed to overcome, and today I arrive at Criciuma with the greatest joy, the greatest pleasure, and I insist on giving my best to try to do a great job.”

Fans joke Cristiano Ronaldo’s Coca-Cola snub was his undoing as Xhaka ‘drinks it like Sunday league player’ in Euro win

FANS jokes Cristiano Ronaldo’s Coco-Cola snub was his undoing as Granit Xhaka necked the famous drink before Switzerland’s penalty shootout with France. The Portugal captain made headlines when he moves the Coke bottles away during a press conference.

Instead, the 36-year-old said: “Drink water,” with the stunt knocking a whopping £2.84billion off the company’s market value.
But Switzerland star Xhaka, 28, got the boost needed as he ‘drunk it like a Sunday league player’.
The skipper and man of the match – linked with a transfer from Arsenal to Roma this summer – was spotted downing a plastic bottle of the classic full-sugar version of the soft drink on the pitch in Bucharest.
And although he did not step up to take a spot-kick, the results worked out well for the blonde-haired midfielder as Switzerland won 5-4 on penalties.
After a dramatic 3-3 draw and nine converted efforts, Kylian Mbappe failed to beat Yann Sommer and the favourites crashed out – just 24 hours after Ronaldo and Portugal were also knocked out.
So Twitter users were quick to compare their respective fortunes with their attitude towards Coca-Cola.
One said: “Xhaka strolls off after 120 minutes and grabs a Coke. See Ronaldo. Really elite players love the stuff.”
Another wrote: “Only if Cristiano Ronaldo had drank Coke, he would still be in the Euros. Look at Xhaka gulping very chilled Coke.”

A third added: “You’re telling me Xhaka played 120 minutes, and then proceeded to crush a Coke while motivating his teammates to bury France in PKs?!? What a legend.”
A fourth replied: “Ronaldo drinks water, xhaka drinks coke, only one of them is in the quarters!”
And Paddy Power commented: “Great to see Xhaka horsing the bottle of Coke into him like a hungover Sunday League player.”
Ronaldo’s move led to other players joining in getting rid of the Coke at press conferences.
Italy hero Manuel Locatelli followed in Ronaldo’s footsteps on and off the pitch – with two goals and then getting rid of the Coke with water put in its place.

Paul Pogba, a devout Muslim, also removed a bottle of Heineken 0.0 – the non-alcoholic version of their beer.
But Roberto Martinez, whose Belgium side are directly sponsored by Coca-Cola and are into the quarters, insisted his team ‘love’ the soft drink after their win over Denmark.
Scottish hero John McGinn turned the saga into a bit of a joke when he came in to do pre-match press and cheekily asked why there was ‘no Coke?’
Clearly not one to blindly follow trends, Russia coach Stanislav Cherchesov merrily drank the Coca-Cola supplied for his media duties.
Andriy Yarmolenko poked further fun by asking Coca-Cola and Heineken for sponsorship deals while England captain Harry Kane simply avoided the entire fiasco by ignoring the bottles.
Uefa, aware of the negative impact the stunts have on big-money backers,  then stepped in to tell players to stop moving sponsors’ drinks or risk getting their team fined.

In another incident Cristiano Ronaldo was hit by cups as he celebrated completing his penalty double and setting new goal records
And Budapest security staff later intervened after a supporter came on – while Ron stayed alert as he spotted a bottle hurtling towards him.
It comes a week after the Juventus legend removed two Coca-Cola bottles from a press conference table to spark a row over sponsorship.
Ronaldo urged the watching world to “drink water!”
But after France’s Paul Pogba followed suit, by taking a Heineken bottle off a table, Uefa warned teams not to block sponsors’ products.
Ronaldo rubbed his back after appearing to be hit by cups, following a spot-kick that completed the scoring amid a gripping Group F finale.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United frontman had extra reasons to rejoice at scoring that second goal.
It took him past Miroslav Klose’s record for major tournaments of 19 goals.

And it levelled him up with Iran’s Ali Daei on 109 goals at the top of the list for all-time top international scorers.
But Ron had to cut short his customary pirouette goal celebration due to the cups landing on him.
He then angrily turned to face the fans before carrying on his rejoicing – just one of many dramatic scenes in a compelling finale to Group F.

Ronaldo, 36, then picked up a bottle of water and shouted in his native tongue: “Agua.”
And Ikea have cheekily jumped on the wagon by naming clear and reusable glass water bottles after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The Swedish home goods store shared their new product with the world on social media.
The accompanying caption on their Instagram post read: “Drink water, sustainably @cristiano #Euro2020.”
Ikea’s branding of the bottles drew praise from many, with one of their followers saying: “Give your marketing team a raise.”
Another said: “Hahaha marketing on point.”

And another said: “This is quick clever marketing.”
Ronaldo’s moving of the Coke bottles knocked a staggering £2.84billion off the company’s market value.
Other players have followed the former Manchester United man’s suit, with Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli also moving bottles of Coke and replacing them with water.
France’s Paul Pogba removed a bottle of Heineken from in front of him after France’s 1-0 win over Germany, placing it below the table during the post-match press conference.
But players now face the possibility of being fined if they remove any items from the tournament’s sponsors.

Euro 2020 tournament director Martin Kalle, said: “It is important because the revenues of the sponsors are important for the tournament and for European football.
“We are never fining players directly from the Uefa side, we will do this always through the participating national association and then they could look if they will go further to the player, but we are not going directly for the moment to the player.”
Kallen then revealed tournament rules require compliance with Uefa’s promises to sponsors.
He did, however, also reveal that players with religious objections ‘don’t need to have a bottle there’.
Ronaldo and his Portugal team-mates will be back in action this evening, locking horns with France in their final Group F match.

PORTUGAL fans unveiled a brilliant banner ahead of their defeat to Germany following Cristiano Ronaldo’s bizarre Coca-Cola snub. Before his nation’s Euro 2020 opener against Hungary, the Juventus star, 36, removed two bottles of Coke from in front of him and urged everyone to ‘drink water!’ instead – costing the drinks giant $4BILLION.

Fans, players and coaches have all poked fun of Ronaldo ever since – with stars even threatened with fines if they continue to move the sponsors’ bottles out of sight.
And on Saturday, fans unfurled a hilarious banner for the second group game against Germany.
A set of fans held up a flag with the words ‘Portugal. Water. Coca-Cola. In that order’, across it in a nod to Gareth Bale’s famous ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid’ banner.
A famous fitness fanatic, Ronaldo appeared to take offence when presented with bottles of Coke at a press conference before the clash with Hungary – in which he scored twice in the late 3-0 win.
Wearing a bemused expression, Ronaldo grabbed the two containers of fizzy pop that were placed in front of his microphone before moving them out of sight.
The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid ace then produced a bottle of water, waved it at the journalists present before declaring: “Drink water!”
Later on Tuesday, devout Muslim Paul Pogba removed a bottle of Heineken 0.0% during his press conference following France’s 1-0 win against Germany.
Italy star Manuel Locatelli also moved his Coca-Cola out of sight, replacing it with water following his Man of the Match display against Switzerland.

Scotland ace John McGinn later joked about the lack of Coke at his pre-England press conference.
The incidents had seen Coke’s shares on the New York Stock Exchange fall by 1.6 per cent to wipe £2.83billion off the company’s value.
But Russia coach Stanislav Cherchesov was clearly on the side of Coca-Cola after he happily popped open his bottle of coke after beating Finland.
Unfortunately for the Portuguese fans, the banner could not spur their nation to a second win.
Ronaldo opened the scoring after a brilliant counter-attack but Germany hit back, eventually winning 4-2 in a thrilling game in Munich.

After Cristiano Ronaldo moved the bottles, the firm lost $4billion in value
The club’s manager defended the use of sponsors and product placement as they can be beneficial for football, for example in providing sports facilities.
Southgate said: “I think there are lots of sponsors in sport and the impact of their money at all levels helps sport to function, particularly grassroots sport in our country requires investment and without some of those companies it would be very difficult to have the facilities we need.
“We’re mindful in our country of obesity and health but everything can be done in moderation, and anything that is done in moderation is rarely a problem.
“I understand the concerns that people have. Obviously the two guys [Ronaldo and Pogba] have different rationale to the stances they took but there’s always a bigger picture.”
    FOCUSED ON MATCH
Kane added: “I totally agree. Obviously the sponsors are entitled to what they want if they’ve paid the money to do so.
“It’s not something I’ve thought too much about.
“I’ve seen it go round on social media but if I’m totally honest I’m more focused on tomorrow [England’s match vs Scotland] than anything like that.”
After Cristiano Ronaldo removed a Coca-Cola bottle at a Euro 2020 news conference, UEFA told teams they have contractual obligations towards tournament sponsors.
Coca-Cola had $4billion wiped off their share value after Cristiano Ronaldo said ‘Drink water!’ at a press conference

Organisers for Euro 2020 said: “UEFA has reminded participating teams that partnerships are integral to the delivery of the tournament and to ensuring the development of football across Europe, including for youth and women.”
The Portugal captain – who scored two late goals in a 3-0 win against Hungary – had told the watching world to ‘Drink Water!’ as he sat down to speak to the media.
The Juventus forward removed two bottles of the fizzy drink from the desk in front of him during his pre-match press conference ahead of their opening game win.
    Coca-Cola’s share price promptly dropped from $56.10 (£39.80) to $55.22 (£39.19).
Ronaldo, 36, has a famously strict diet
At one point during the day 1.6 per cent of the company’s value had been wiped off – meaning the market value of Coca-Cola went from $242bn to $238bn – a drop of $4bn (£2.84bn).
There was a late recovery, with the price back up to $55.44 (£39.38) at closing.
UEFA has since issued a statement in response to CR7’s actions, saying “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” and that everyone has different “tastes and needs”.
A spokesperson added: “Players are offered water, alongside Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, on arrival at our press conferences.”
And Ronaldo’s stunt has already seen copycat moves from other Euro 2020 stars.

On Tuesday, devout Muslim Paul Pogba removed a beer bottle during his press conference following France’s 1-0 win against Germany.
And on Wednesday, two-goal Italy hero Manuel Locatelli also removed Coca Cola bottles from his press conference.
Ronaldo, 36, has a famously strict diet and avoids sugary foods, eating clean up to six times a day to maintain his incredible physique while he ages – although he has advertised junk food, including Coke, in the past.
While still at Real Madrid, the club doctor said he had the body of a player ten years younger and could continue playing at the top level into his 40s.
While the drinks company were trying to save face on Tuesday, Ronaldo was his typical self on the pitch against Hungary.
