Xavi makes shock U-turn and will STAY at Barcelona after meeting with chairman Joan Laporta


XAVI has reportedly decided to STAY at Barcelona despite revealing plans to depart this summer.

The Spaniard unexpectedly announced his intention to leave the Nou Camp back in January.

Following Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat to Villarreal, he said: “I will leave Barcelona in June.

“We have reached a point of no return. It’s time for change.

“As a Culé, I think that it’s time to leave. I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June.”

Xavi’s current deal with the La Liga giants is set to expire this summer.

But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 44-year-old has now changed his mind.

Following a meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Wednesday afternoon, Xavi made the decision to stay at the club.

The ex-midfielder has allegedly agreed conditions for a new deal.

Xavi took over from Ronald Koeman at Barcelona in November 2021 and has since managed 136 games.

During that time he has registered 85 wins and 28 defeats.

He won the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga title with the Catalan giants last season.
