It’s been a rocky season for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe feeling the full effects of their European journey as many of Toon’s first-team regulars have been out injured for large parts of the season.

Kieran Trippier is the latest player with an issue, as he missed the 4-2 defeat at Liverpool on New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have taken seven points from their last three games as they look to secure a place in the Championship Play-Offs come May.

The Black Cats hold a far superior record in the last five Tyne-Wear derbies, winning four and drawing one of the last five meetings.
