But earlier in the game, the fan zone in Croydon turned into mayhem as on-site security were forced to intervene.

The mass brawl reportedly happened seconds after Dutch defender van Dijk had an effort ruled out just before the hour mark.

Terrifying footage shows one man throwing his drink into the crowd before several others start having a fistfight.

Security guards then restrain the main culprits and escort them out of the venue.

One supporter falls to the floor while other men kick out at each other next to a bus stop.

A spokesperson for BoxPark said: “Yesterday afternoon, our team identified an altercation amongst football fans in our venue during the Carabao Cup Final.

“Our security reacted with urgency and efficiency to a small number of individuals who were causing trouble and safely escorted them from the premises to ensure our guests could continue to enjoy their time in our venue. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

“We do not condone any violence in our venue, and we have robust security measures in place to handle incidents should they arise.

“We are committed to providing a safe space for everyone to enjoy our sports screening experience and the wellbeing of our guests and employees is our number one priority.”

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool’s triumph as the “most special” trophy of his career.

The German was forced to field a remarkably inexperienced team during an injury-hit period for the club.

The Reds boss started with 20-year-olds Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott in his side and brought on Bobby Clark, 19, James McConnell, 19, Jayden Danns, 18, and Jarell Quansah, 21, from the bench.

Injuries had deprived Klopp of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker and Joel Matip among others.

Meanwhile Ryan Gravenberch was stretchered off in the first half.

“In more than 20 years it is easily the most special trophy I have ever won. It is absolutely exceptional,” he said.

“Sometimes people ask me if I’m proud of things and it’s really tricky, I wish I could feel pride more often but tonight is an overwhelming feeling.

“I was proud of everyone involved in everything here. I was proud of our academy, I was proud of my coaches, I was proud of so many things. It was completely overwhelming.”
