Last season in April the club’s co-owner had had enough and wanted to put his thoughts across to the players.

TalkSPORT have claimed that after the 2-1 defeat to Brighton under Frank Lampard, Boehly burst into the club’s dressing room.

The report suggests that the American labelled the six-game winless run as “embarrassing”.

Sterling, 29, was even told that despite being a world-class player, he was not delivering enough in his performances and as a leader.

However, the England international is understood to have not been singled out by Boehly and is said to have been “galvanised” by the incident.

The attacker believed that Boehly was trying to motivate the Chelsea team with his rallying call and appreciates an atmosphere where things can be called out.

Sterling has improved his output this season and is already one goal away from matching his tally of five in the previous Premier League campaign.

He has also become a more reliable creator as he has matched his three assists from last term.
