Premier League owner goes on furious X rant about ‘absolutely infuriating decision’ that led to injury time goal

BURNLEY co-owner JJ Watt has launched a furious rant against the Premier League officials on social media.

The former NFL star, who owns a minority stake in the Clarets, was left fuming after Wolves were awarded a soft free kick during their 1-1 draw with Burnley on Tuesday.

Burnley were leading the Premier League clash in the early stages, but conceded an equaliser from Rayan Ait-Nouri on the stroke of half time after he nodded home a Pablo Sarabia free kick.

But American owner Watt thinks that the free kick that led to the goal shouldn’t have been awarded in the first place as he made his feelings clear on X.

The 35-year-old took aim at the officiating while admitting his side should have done more to defend the cross once the free kick was awarded.

Alongside a video of the foul committed by Dara O’Shea, he wrote: “Yes, we need to defend the free kick better once it’s given, there’s zero question about that.

“But to call this a foul and award a free kick at the very end of the first half is absolutely infuriating.

“This is the best league in the world and we’re calling this a foul?”

The game ended 1-1 with Burnley unable to turn things around as they stay shackled to the relegation zone despite being undefeated in their last four games.

Some fans were in agreement with Watt’s take on the game-changing free kick decision and took to social media to voice their opinions.

Although others suggested the onus should be entirely on Burnley for their set-piece defending.

One wrote: “The ref made a mistake. How many mistakes do players make in a game? Defend the free kick properly and get on with the game”

And a second added: “You know as well as anyone, at game speed that probably does look like a free kick.”

It’s not the first time Watt has taken to X to rant about his thoughts on the officiating in the Premier League either.

In January the star saw his account LOCKED after he posted a furious dig about VAR online.

Watt is new to the world of football after an illustrious career in the NFL that saw him earn the title of Defensive Player of the Year three times.
