Robins’ passionate celebration in front of the ball boy came after Haji Wright’s stoppage time winner at Molineux.

Coventry had led before Wolves turned the match on its head late on.

However, Ellis Simms equalised in added time before Wright bagged the winner in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

Speaking after the match, Robins said: “I apologise to the Wolves ball boy. He didn’t pick up the ball and smirked… when we scored the winner, I celebrated in front of him – I shouldn’t have done that.”

The former Manchester United hero added: “It really annoyed me, but he’s a kid, at the end of the day I have reacted, we scored the goal and I went and celebrated in front of him.

“I apologise to him. I do not show emotion very often and before that happened I apologise to him, I don’t show emotion very often but that is what the FA Cup does to you. I apologise unreservedly to him.”

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil had branded Robins’ celebrations “disgusting” during his own post-match press conference.

O’Neil fumed: “He apologised but to celebrate in a young boy’s face is disgusting. The boy is really upset. It shouldn’t happen.
