Rafael Vinoly dead at 78: Man City pay tribute to world famous architect who designed Etihad training ground


MANCHESTER CITY have paid tribute to famous architect Rafael Vinoly after he passed away aged 78.

Vinoly, who is best known for his work on 1,400 feet residential tower 432 Park Avenue in New York, designed the Etihad Campus, which was opened in 2013 and includes City’s training ground.

The vast complex covers 80 acres and boasts 16 indoor and outdoor pitches.

City paid tribute to Vinoly after he passed away in a New York hospital on Thursday.

A statement read: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our cherished friend and renowned architect, Rafael Viñoly who designed the Club’s training ground, City Football Academy.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Fans have also shown their appreciation for Vinoly’s role in upgrading the club’s facilities, which have helped to attract the best players and manager in the world.

Vinoly also designed buildings at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia.

Supporters paid tribute to the Uruguyan, who died of an aneurysm according to his son Roman.

One fan wrote: “What a legacy he left, will always be remembered.”
