And now Galtier has revealed when 2022 World Cup winner Messi’s last match will be.

The PSG chief revealed: “I had a privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football.

“It will be Leo’s last match at the Parc des Princes against Clermont”.

PSG will face eight-placed Clermont on Saturday having already clinched the Ligue 1 title – their ninth in 11 seasons.

The French champions had hoped Messi’s arrival – joining Neymar and Kylian Mbappe – would finally deliver a long-awaited Champions League crown.

But Messi was unable to conjure up enough magic to break PSG’s European drought.

They were KO’d by Bayern Munich in the last 16 in 2022-23.

Messi has long been linked with a return to Barcelona, with old pal Xavi keen to be reunited.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami are also keen to bring the legend to the MLS.

And it’s reported a Saudi Arabian side have offered Messi a staggering £1BILLION to join arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East.

Galtier already appears to have a replacement lined up, too.

AS claim Asensio is on the brink of confirming a five-year-deal with PSG ahead of his farewell appearance for Messi’s old rivals Real Madrid against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

High-flying Aston Villa were prepared to push the boat out to make the 27-year-old their marquee summer signing.

But the lure of Champions League football appears to have convinced Asensio to head to Paris.

PSG will hope he can use his experience of winning the competition to guide them to a long-overdue crown.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with Asensio this summer.

Asensio scored 61 goals and provided 32 assists in 285 appearances for Real Madrid, who were keen to keep the midfielder.

However, the 35-cap Spain international was unhappy with being a bit-part player under Carlo Ancelotti and wants a new challenge with PSG.
