The 22-year-old was bleeding and required treatment on the pitch before being rushed to hospital where he was detained overnight, and later underwent surgery.

“We wish Neco all the best with his recovery.”

Williams is the latest Forest star to join Steve Cooper’s lengthy injury list.

That’s after Moussa Niakhate suffered a hamstring injury during the Brighton match to become the 13th Forest star to be crocked.

Johnson sent a message of support to his stricken teammate Williams on Instagram which said: “Thinking of you bro”, followed by two praying and heart emojis.

Meanwhile, Williams himself sent a message to teammates and fans confirming his setback – and that he will miss the remainder of the season.

But the Welshman hopes he can still help his side to fight for their Premier League survival from the sidelines.
