Man Utd fans despair as ‘terrible’ keeper is on three-man transfer shortlist to replace David de Gea

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left shaken by a “terrible” goalkeeper on the three-man shortlist to replace David de Gea.

The Spaniard’s 12-year stay at Old Trafford appears to be nearing its end with his contract expiring in just two months.

The 32-year-old has been locked in negotiations with the club over a new deal with club chiefs looking to slash his £375,000-a-week wages.

De Gea did little to help his case in his last appearance with a string of errors against Sevilla as United crashed out of Europe.

But fans have been far from encouraged by the list of his potential replacements.

The Telegraph report that David Raya, Diogo Costa and Yann Sommer are heading up the options to replace United’s longest-serving player.

But the trio of names did not inspire confidence in fans – with one goalie in particularly coming under fire.

One United fan wrote on Twitter: “Sommer is absolutely terrible.”

Another added: “Sommer???? DDG is better with his feet I promise”

Another said: “All these goalkeepers are way below De Gea – no upgrade at all.”

Taking no prisoners, one fan brutally quipped: “A mid-table keeper. A Bayern backup and a Portuguese league keeper. Let’s go.”

While another supporter said: “Yan Sommer?? Lmaooooo. This news is dead on arrival.”

Bayern Munich recruited Sommer in January after Manuel Neuer suffered a horrific accident while skiing which prematurely ended his season.

But the Swiss goalkeeper did not have the best time of it in the Champions League as Bayern were tossed out of the competition by Manchester City.
