Jonny Evans instantly becomes most successful player in Man Utd squad after shock transfer as astonishing stat revealed

JONNY EVANS completed a shock short-term return to Manchester United on Tuesday.

The veteran centre-back was on the Red Devils’ books between 2004 and 2015 – and was a serial winner.

Evans, 35, notched three Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And he was part of the last United side to win the Prem in the 2012-13 season.

Following the exits of David de Gea and Phil Jones earlier this summer, Evans is the only player member of that side now on the Red Devils’ books.

Prior to Evans’ arrival, United had been without a Prem title winner among their ranks for the first time since 1993.

In addition to three league titles, the Northern Irishman also won the Champions League in 2008 – as well as two League Cups.

He made 198 appearances for United before leaving for West Brom in 2015.

SunSport understands that Evans’ return is seen as a mutually beneficial short-term arrangement – with the defender able to gain fitness and United benefiting from his experience.

He has been named as part of the Red Devils’ travelling party to Edinburgh for their friendly against Lyon tomorrow, having impressed boss Erik ten Hag in training.

Evans is then set to travel with the Red Devils’ Under-21s as they head to San Diego for further pre-season matches.

The dependable defender joined Leicester in 2018 following three years at West Brom.

He went on to play 152 times for the Foxes – helping them win the FA Cup in 2021.

Evans missed much of last season with a calf injury.

He was limited to just 13 Premier League appearances, although he did return to fitness in time to skipper Dean Smith’s side for the final three matches.
