Everton set to suffer another transfer blow with Andre Ayew closing in on Nottingham Forest free move

EVERTON are set to suffer another setback with Andre Ayew reportedly closing in on a free move to Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees struggled to make headway in the January window as they fight to keep their Premier League status.

The club did not make a permanent signing last month but had been linked with a move for former Swansea City striker Andre Ayew, who is now a free agent.

The 33-year-old left Qatari club Al-Sadd SC at the end of January after an 18-month spell in the Middle East.

Now available for nothing, Sports Witness report that Forest are looking to bring him to the City Ground.

They have already signed an extraordinary 29 players since coming up last season but could yet move for more firepower.

Chris Wood had already been bought in to beef up the forward line but Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly set for a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

Ayew was a consistent goal threat during both spells at Swansea.

He has also already worked with Steve Cooper when the Forest boss managed the Welsh club.

Missing out on another target would compound what has already been a difficult 2023 for Everton.

Newcastle swooped for Anthony Gordon for £40m towards the end of the window after the 21-year-old missed multiple training sessions.

A frantic attempt to replace him saw Everton fail in late moves for Ismaila Sarr and Conor Gallagher.

The lack of replacement for Gordon has given new boss Sean Dyche an ever bigger challenge.

The Merseyside club have lost all their games since the turn of the year and face league leaders Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime before Liverpool at Anfield.
