It also touches on his relationship with his wife, Victoria, and the couple’s family.

Unveiling the trailer for the documentary, titled ‘BECKHAM’, on Instagram, the former midfielder said: “Ten years since I retired from playing football I’m proud to share the first trailer for BECKHAM, my Netflix documentary series.

“I’m so grateful to Fisher Stevens for his partnership over the past two years to bring this project to life.

“Many hours of conversations, many stories I’ve never told and many people from my life and career sharing their memories. I can’t wait for you all to see it.”

Former Manchester United stars Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand both feature in the trailer, as well as legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

In the documentary, Beckham discusses some off-pitch moments that happened during his spell at Old Trafford – including the infamous incident where Ferguson kicked a boot at his face.

He also opens up about the red card that saw him go from hero to zero after England lost to Argentina in the 1998 World Cup round-of-16.

The Three Lions icon explained: “I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it just because I can’t.

“I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t sleeping. It took a toll on me that I never even knew myself.”

Some members of Beckham’s family also feature in the documentary, including his wife Victoria, who recalls the time they started dating.

Victoria said: “My manager kept saying, ‘try and keep it under wraps’.

“So we would meet in car parks, and that’s not as seedy as it sounds!”
