Arsenal curse that shows Kai Havertz should NOT be allowed to pick his own shirt number after transfer from Chelsea

KAI HAVERTZ should not be allowed to choose his own shirt number if he joins Arsenal due to a club curse.

The Chelsea star is close to signing for the Gunners in a £65million move.

Havertz is set to undergo a medical and could soon be picking his squad number.

The German has worn the No29 throughout his career at both Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea.

But the 24-year-old should be wary of going for that number at Arsenal due to several flops wearing it in the past.

Mortiz Volz donned the No29 kit for two years.

The right-back came through the club’s academy, playing just two senior games before he joined Fulham.

Ashley Cole then wore the cursed number for one season.

Despite winning two league titles, none came when he wore No29, and his legacy was ruined after controversially leaving to join Chelsea.

Sebastian Larrson was next to take the number, he played with it on his back nine times before he left for Birmingham after failing to make the cut in North London.

The shirt then remained vacant for five years before Marouane Chamakh came in and took it.

The Moroccan signed from Bordeaux with big expectations after helping them win the league in 2009.

But the striker would score just 14 goals in three seasons before moving to Crystal Palace.

The No29 would then be picked up by flop Kim Kallstrom.

He spent half a season at Arsenal and missed a number of games due to a back injury before he left, having featured just four times.

Granit Xhaka has enjoyed his spell at the club as the No34 from 2018, but during his first two seasons he was the No29.

The Swiss midfielder got booked 24 times and sent off twice with the cursed number on his shirt.

Matteo Guendouzi was the last player to claim it before he quit the club, having been left out of training due to reported conduct issues.

If Havertz’s wants to avoid the No29 he could go for the vacant No17 or No23, which he once wore for Germany.
