Ten Hag encouraged by Man Utd team and believes they are starting to gel in time for Arsenal ‘test’

ERIK TEN HAG believes his Manchester United team is starting to gel at just the right rime to face league leaders Arsenal.

The Red Devils chalked up their third consecutive victory with a 1-0 win at Leicester on Thursday night.

They now face Mikel Arteta’s side who have won five out of five, at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ten Hag said: “I have seen Arsenal, a tough opponent.

“They’ve started really well this season and you can see this is a team who are longer together, who have a coach bringing his philosophy to the team, so for us it’s a good test.”

Ten Hag has only been with United since the summer and suffered a troubled start to the season with back-to-back defeats – including the 4-0 humiliation at Brentford.

Now there has been an upturn with the confidence boosting 2-1 victory over Liverpool followed by a 1-0 win at Southampton, plus the victory at Leicester.

Ten Hag said: “I have seen some good stuff. It’s more than details. I see structures are coming. We are constructing and that’s good to see.

“We have to do that and aim prove from game to game. That’s work on the training ground, work on the video and work in the games.

“It’s about formation, about creating lines and making the right decisions. The decisions on the ball. But also out of possession, we are making good steps.

“We have a base but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.”

Having shipped six goals in their first two games they have conceded only one in three keeping two consecutive clean sheets.

Ten Hag said: “Collectively, I see the whole team is defending and that makes it easier for our defenders. I think what they do well is co-operate.

“They do it together, they support each other and have a good performance. It’s difficult for opponents to create chances and I think this what we’re seeing on the pitch.”
