‘Selfish’ Bruno Fernandes would be first person to jump out of a sinking ship, blasts ex-Man Utd star Paul Parker

FORMER Manchester United defender Paul Parker has claimed that “selfish” Bruno Fernandes would be the “first person to jump out” of a sinking boat.

Fernandes, 28, joined the Red Devils for £55million from Sporting Lisbon two years ago.

The Portugal international has scored 51 goals and assisted 40 so far during his time at Old Trafford, but he came under fire last season following a spell of poor form.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, he compared his drop in form to the likes of Nicolas Pepe, who joined Arsenal in August 2019.

He said: “He (Pepe) had some bad games and everyone was saying, ‘He still has to adapt’.

“But when Bruno was having a bad game, it was just because he was moaning or not focused on the game.

“For me, that was good, because it meant that I was ready and that’s why they were demanding so much from me.”

However, ex-United star Parker believes that the statement is a “worrying” sign.

He told BeMyBet: “Bruno Fernandes is the kind of person, if the boat was sinking, he would be the first person to jump out of it.

“That says it all in my opinion.

“When again he’s asked to talk to the press, someone’s got to sit next to him and educate him a little bit in what he should say and not say.

“It could be a joke or something.

“But that’s worrying for me to come out and say something like that.

“He comes across to me as a very selfish person, when he is saying things like this.”

Fernandes has made eight appearances for Man Utd so far this season.

The Red Devils endured a poor start to the campaign with two successive defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

But, new boss Erik ten Hag quickly turned things around and his side went on to beat Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal.
