  • Rangnick wanted to sell Ronaldo

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick reportedly told the club that they had to sell Cristiano Ronaldo back in January.

The Athletic state: “On more than one occasion Rangnick proposed to football director John Murtough and chief executive officer Richard Arnold that Ronaldo be sold, and replaced, during the January transfer window.

“Rangnick felt that as Ronaldo’s time at United was uncertain beyond the end of the season, it made sense to act sooner rather than later to reconfigure the side’s attack.”

Christian Eriksen has agreed to join Manchester United on a free transfer.

Manchester United are planning to complete five signings before the end of their pre-season tour.

One of them is Christian Eriksen, who is on the verge to join them as a free agent.

Ten Hag is keen to upgrade his midfield and United appear to finally be closing in on Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong after having a bid accepted.

The Dutchman is also keen on another of his former players, Lisandro Martinez, but Ajax are refusing to budge from their considerable asking price amid interest from Arsenal.

The Dutch champions are also demanding an eye-watering £70m fee for Antony with Ten Hag keen on his former player.

United are also in the market for a back-up goalkeeper following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest

  • On the Ronway

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has put his £20million private jet up for sale as it’s too small.

Ronaldo bought the plane for the reported eight-figure fortune in 2015.

The star forward’s Gulfstream G200 has served him well with the striker often jetting off on holiday around Europe with partner Georgina Rodriguez and kids.

The Portugal captain also uses the aircraft to fly back and forth to Portugal regularly thanks to its top speed of 560mph.

And although the plane can seat between eight to 10 people, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is looking for a bigger model.

There could be a number of willing buyers too, with the 37-year-old often renting out the jet for a rate ranging from £5000-£8500 an hour.

  • More on Lisandro Martinez

The Gunners put in three offers – most recently for £34m.

The 29-year-old took to Instagram to say thank you to the club with a touching statement.

Morrison posted: “Thank you Derby County, all the players, staff and fans for making me feel at home.

The Portugal international was seen driving a swanky white Rolls Royce 4×4 as he arrived at the training ground.

It’s currently unclear what the 37-year-old was doing at A Selecao’s hub, although it’s likely he was getting some training in

  • ‘Not world class’

Manchester United fans should be underwhelmed by the signing of Christian Eriksen, according to Liverpool hero Danny Murphy.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “World class? Eriksen? No. No, no, no, no. He is a welcome addition to any squad because he is experienced and has quality.

“But when you’re looking at the big games when United are competing against Liverpool, [Manchester] City and Chelsea, is he going to play in that first XI? No, is the answer.

“He could change a game, yes, that’s fair. He could come off the bench and change a game but is he going to bring United closer to Liverpool and City? Nowhere near it.

“This is Man Utd. Is he better than [Bruno] Fernandes? No. Is he going to be playing in the first XI? No.

“Is he a welcome addition and good squad player? Yes. Should I be happy as a United fan? No. Would I be excited as a United fan? I’d be a bit underwhelmed by it”
