The Spaniard, who lifted the European Championship twice and the World Cup for his country, won countless honours at the LaLiga giants.

He tasted Champions League success on four occasions as well as winning the domestic title nine times before his departure to join Japanese J-League club Vissel Kobe, who he now captains.

Iniesta has just returned to the Far East after enjoying his summer break, and as he shared a photo of he and his family arriving back in Japan, he also revealed his young boy is a City fan.

The youngster was pictured wearing the Premier League side’s colours in the snap the icon posted on Instagram, and City fans quickly urged the club to snap up the child to their academy.

Speculation mounted back in 2018 that Iniesta would be reuniting with Guardiola at City after he announced that he was ending his 16-year stay at Barcelona.

However, his refusal to play against the Catalans ultimately scuppered any move.

He said: “Pep sent me messages yes, but there are some reports that I don’t understand.

“I won’t play against Barcelona. My time in elite football ends at Barca.”

Since arriving from Barcelona four years ago, Iniesta has chipped in with 26 goals in 126 games where he has been a key figure.

He has won both the Emperor’s Cup – the Japanese equivalent to the FA Cup – as well as the Japanese Super Cup where he scored in the penalty shootout victory against Yokohama F. Marinos.

Those trophies are the only pieces of silverware that Vissel Kobe have claimed in their 56-year history but his love affair could soon be about to change with the club sitting second bottom of the table with just nine games to go.
