How Liverpool lined up in Divock Origi’s debut with Benteke and Ings as cult hero nears AC Milan transfer

DIVOCK ORIGI made his Liverpool debut from the bench in 2015’s 3-1 away loss to rivals Manchester United.

The striker, then aged just 20, came on in the 74th minute for Danny Ings but was unable to claw the Reds back into the game.

Simon Mignolet started on the day with Nathaniel Clyne, Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez in front of him.

Lucas was in midfield alongside Emre Can and James Milner.

Christian Benteke was Liverpool’s focal point in attack on the day and scored a wonderful bicycle kick in the 84th minute – but at that point it was too little, too late.

And Ings, alongside Roberto Firmino, started either side of Benteke.

And Serie A league leaders AC Milan reportedly have a verbal agreement for the Belgian, now 26, to join for FREE.

Both parties have agreed on a four-year contract but are yet to settle on the financial terms.

Milan have offered Origi around £2.5million per season but the striker is looking to pick up closer to £3.7m.

However, it is possible that both parties could meet in the middle at £3.3m.

The forward famously netted in the 2019 Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona to overturn a three-goal deficit.

Origi also struck Liverpool’s second in the final against fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham.

Boss Jurgen Klopp will be sad to see Origi go.

The German has described the jovial forward as “one of the best finishers” he has ever seen.

Klopp said: “[Origi] is an incredible striker and for different reasons he did not play that often, but I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more than I do.

“He’s one of the best finishers I’ve ever seen in my life.

“In this great team, with our [front] three, he doesn’t play all the time but he is a very positive boy, loves the club, wants to contribute and he did in an incredible way.”
