Harry Maguire told to leave Man Utd in 72 hours in horror bomb threat, Kalvin Phillips transfer talks, Ronaldo latest

MANCHESTER UNITED captain Harry Maguire has been left shocked after receiving a bomb threat.

A psychotic fan warned the England centre-back to leave United in 72 hours or die.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick said: “This is another bad sign of the crazy world we’re living in and obviously I feel sorry for Harry that he had that terrible experience.”

Fortunately, police found no suspicious item after searching the England star’s house with sniffer dogs.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are looking to make Kalvin Phillips their first signing under Eric Ten Hag, according to reports.

The Red Devils are said to have began talks over a £60m transfer from Leeds.

And Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training just three days after the tragic death of his unborn son.

  • Xhaka reacts on Arsenal win

Arsenal ace Granit Xhaka said he “likes” to score against Manchester United after his goal at the Emirates.

Xhaka told BT Sport: “I’m very happy I helped the team with the goal. It’s a long time since I scored.

“It’s always good to score at home with the fans. With the family I had here today as well. But the most important thing is the points.

“I like to score against United. To win 3-1 against United is very important. It is not the first time we score and concede straight away, we did it twice against Chelsea.

“We have to be more clever and strong mentally. They missed a penalty which helped us a lot, and after 3-1 the game was finished”

  • United out of Rudiger race

Manchester United are unlikely to sign departing Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger in the summer transfer window.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports that United are “out of the race” for Rudiger’s signature, as are Bayern Munich.

Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in a free transfer, with Juventus also keen on the centre-back.

But Real Madrid appear to be the frontrunners for the Germany international, who has also lowered his wage demands

  • Antonio Rudiger ‘Over’

Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger will definitely leave in the summer upon the expiry of his deal.

But Rudiger won’t be joining Manchester United as a free agent during the next transfer window.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed “it’s over” and there is no longer any hope of the centre-back penning an extension.

And Romano claims the Germany international is “close” to reaching an agreement with Real Madrid

  • Mikel Arteta reacts

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta claims the battle for fourth place will still be a “rollercoaster” despite the victory over Manchester United.

Arteta told BT Sport: “It’s a big performance in a game that had everything.

“We created chances, we had to suffer, there were moments when we lacked energy and they were on top, we were really efficient in the boxes, we had luck.

“They have exceptional players, and I am so happy to win the game. This [the fight for fourth place] is going to be a rollercoaster. Today it went in our favour”

  • Rangnick on top four

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick claims the “top four is gone” after the loss to Arsenal.

Rangnick told BT Sport: “It would have helped us a lot if [the missed penalty] was the equaliser and would have changed the whole game.

“But we didn’t, we hit the post, we hit the post twice, plus the crossbar. So in the end, very unlucky for us.

“There is nothing about the attitude of the players that we should fault today.”

“Even before this game it was not very likely, but after this result top four is gone, yes”

  • Ralf Rangnick reacts

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick criticised VAR after the loss to Arsenal.

Rangnick told BT Sport: “We showed an improved performance, but in the end, it’s a disappointing result.

“We bounced back well from the early goal and had numerous chances to score more goals. The only weak side of our performance was that we didn’t defend well inside and around [the] box.

“For me there were also three unlucky VAR decisions. The third goal of Arsenal was clearly offside, David [de Gea] said to me he couldn’t see the ball.

“The second goal of Cristiano was definitely not offside. There was another handball decision in the first half. We were not happy with those VAR decisions, but it was an improved performance”

  • Arteta on Ronaldo

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that he can’t comprehend the pain Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo must be feeling after the death of his newborn son.

Arteta said: “I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about something like that because unless you experience it you cannot be on the same level to express or to go through the pain.

“What this country and league have shown with what happened at Anfield the other day I think is exceptional.

“Sports should be leading to find some unity at the human level that sometimes is missing.

“It was a great example and something to be really proud to be participating in a league where some clubs and people involved in this sport are able to show such a thing”

  • Kalvin Phillips interest

Manchester United have started working on a deal to sign Leeds star Kalvin Phillips.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Whites value Phillips between £50-£60million and United have opened talks with the Yorkshire club.

Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the midfielder and are reportedly prepared to bid £60m to land the 26-year-old.

But the Red Devils have identified the England international as a top target in place of Declan Rice after West Ham placed a £150m asking price on their star man

A maniac told Manchester United captain Harry Maguire they would detonate three bombs planted at his home if he did not quit the club.

  • Countdown to kick off

There’s just over two-and-a-half hours to go until the Red Devils are back in action.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are set to be buoyed by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is available to play following the heartbreaking death of his baby son earlier in the week.

CR7 missed Tuesday night’s clash at Anfield after being granted compassionate leave by the club, before returning to training on Wednesday.

Scott McTominay is also back after missing the last two games, as is Raphael Varane.

  • Pre-match stat attack

Recent history at the Emirates doesn’t exactly favour Manchester United.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last three Premier League home games against the Red Devils.

United have lost two and drawn one of their last three trips to north London.

Ralf Rangnick will be desperate to put an end to that record today, otherwise it’s effectively curtains for United’s Champions League hopes.

  • Rangnick speaks on Ten Hag

Interim boss Ralf Rangick has hailed Erik ten Hag as the “best choice the club could make”.

He told United’s official website: “To start with, I think it’s good that we know who the new permanent manager will be.

“I haven’t met Erik in person but, from what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard from people who have worked with him – I know some people with whom I’ve worked very closely and very intensely with together – that he’s a very communicative, a very modern head coach.

“I think this is a very good choice, probably one of the best, if not the best, choice the club could make.

“Now it’s about him moulding his coaching staff, together with the club and the scouting department and the board, also to rebuild the squad and I’m pretty positive that, with a good pre-season and the help and assistance of all the people involved in the club, that we can change things for the better.”

  • Ten Hag eyeing De Jong reunion

Newly appointed Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to reunite with Frenkie de Jong at Old Trafford.

De Jong played under Ten Hag at Ajax, before moving on to Barcelona.

And Spanish outlet Sport claim Ten Hag is lining up a move for his former star.

With Paul Pogba set to depart, central midfield is a priority area for the Red Devils this summer.

De Jong fits the bill perfectly, with Ten Hag already said to have shortlisted him for a summer move.

  • Haller speaks on Ten Hag

Ajax striker Sebastien Haller has revealed how Erik ten Hag told his current players he would be leaving at the end of the season to join Manchester united.

Initially asked about Ten Hag in general, Haller told Sky Sports: “What he’s like is like just working with a professional.

“Someone really professional and into his job. Nothing is by random, he’s ready for every situation, so he’ll give safety to the players.”

Then when asked what Ten Hag told the players, Haller added: “He’s just said he’s going to move.

“It’s professional now, so we need to finish the season, he’s aware of that and really focused on this goal for us, and then he has time to speak about his next move.

“A top coach is always good for the Premier League, but nothing is easy to say. It depends how it will go and how much confidence he will have, and the freedom he will have as well.”
