Graham Potter insists he feels safer than EVER as Chelsea boss despite Blues’ horror form before World Cup break

GRAHAM POTTER has never felt safer as Chelsea boss, despite a perilous run of form.

The Blues are eight points off the top four and defeat to Bournemouth tomorrow will equal their worst league run in 24 years.

Potter revealed he held talks with the club’s powerful US-based director Behdad Egbhali while on holiday in California during the World Cup and received his total backing.

He said: “I met up with Behdad and had a good chat. There is fantastic support.

“I’m even more confident, even more aware of the support I have now than I was three months ago when I took the job so that tells you something.

“It’s a credit to them and their support and how they have communicated with me — it’s been fantastic. We all know the pressure and the demands.

“But we have also got people who can see the perspective and say, ‘How can we improve?’.

“I’m really looking forward to the weeks and the months and the years ahead.”

Chelsea have a history of sacking managers on a whim — especially under Roman Abramovich — and Potter is their 12th different full-time boss since 2004.

New owner Todd Boehly handed him a five-year £50million deal in September after Thomas Tuchel was axed.

Potter knows securing Champions League football next season is a challenge.

He added: “It is going to be hard but the focus for us is on our performance, how we function and how we are playing.

“If you don’t control that then you can talk all you want about the gap or what the others do, it doesn’t matter.”
