EVERTON have battled to a hard-fought draw against Liverpool – but they will ponder what could have been.

Conor Coady thought he had fired the Toffees into a late lead, but VAR showed he was inches offside.

The Reds hit the woodwork themselves, with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz going close – but Jordan Pickford was excellent to keep them at bay.

  • Klopp praises Pickford

    Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reflects on the derby:

    It was a real derby, super intense and full of really spectacular moments. They scored a goal – I didn’t see it back but I think it probably was offside.

    Ali made an excellent save. I think we hit the post three times and there were a few unbelievable saves from Pickford – wow, what can you do?

    Jordan Pickford was would simply not let anything past him this afternoon in an astonishing performance.

    The 28-year-old registered 8 saves and receives the Man of the match award for his efforts.

    When asked if he got a fingertip to Salah’s stoppage time effort which bounced off the post, he said:

    Of course I did. It’s one of them when you reverse and you’ve just got to be in the moment. I thought I had a good game today, helping the lads.

    You can see in the team spirit around us, we didn’t get the three points, but we got a draw out of it and we can keep building now.

    Alisson made some wonderful saves too, but that’s our job.

    Both teams had chances to win it, but the goalkeepers kept the scores level.

    Coady had a goal chalked off for offside before Maupay was denied by Alisson from point blank range.

    Salah so nearly won it late on, but Pickford was down to deny him, capping off an extraordinary goalkeeping performance.

    The Brazilian then meets the header and Pickford is equal to it.
