He has been back on light training since the weekend, watching on as his United team-mates were smashed 4-0 at Brentford.

That came just days after an opening weekend loss at home to Brighton, already putting Erik ten Hag under huge pressure.

But the Red Devils boss has had some rare good news, with Martial looking ready to be able to face their bitter rivals.

They take on the Reds – who have drawn their first two league games – at Old Trafford next Monday night.

And with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still up-in-the-air and Marcus Rashford and Co struggling, they need forwards fit.

SunSport understands he has now been given the green light to ramp up his recovery by club medics.

He is back running with the conditioners and moving at full pace without pain once again.

Martial has already been doing ball work with the team, but is expected to resume full training on Wednesday.

That includes contact drills with the rest of the squad, putting him well in contention for next Monday.

United will have their final session on Sunday morning, where a decision could be made on whether he is ready or not.

Ten Hag is hopeful of him playing some part in the huge derby, with his side in dire need of getting their season going.

He wants to bring in another striker this transfer window, if the right man can be found on his lacklustre budget.

Ronaldo’s future is still under consideration, with the Portuguese icon wanting to quit if he can this month.
