ENGLAND fans will not be flocking to the World Cup in Qatar — you can hardly blame them.

Extortionate flights, accommodation worries, plus the price of food and drink has put off many.

England have been given 2,489 seats for their opening game against Iran at the Khalifa Stadium on November 21.

All of the England Supporters Travel Club members who applied were successful.

When you consider there are about 15,000 members, it illustrates many are staying at home.

Iran are set to have over 30,000 at the match.

With England, it is the same story for the game against the USA in the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium on November 25.

England have been given 4,158 tickets and all who applied have been successful.

The only match oversubscribed is the potential Battle of Britain against Wales, Scotland or Ukraine at the Ahmad bin Ali on November 29.

England’s allocation is 2,339. Just 613 have been unsuccessful but they are likely to get tickets via the Fifa website to see Gareth Southgate and Co in action.

ATTENDANCES in the EFL have returned to pre-Covid levels, which is a massive relief for clubs.

But early signs are that after an initial dip at the start of the campaign when some fans were nervous about returning to games, everything has returned to normal.

Equally, club chairmen are fascinated over how the gates will fair during the World Cup.

The Championship will pause for almost a month but League One and League Two matches will continue unless — however unlikely — a team has three players starring in Qatar.

So, maybe fans will flock to the lower leagues to get their fix of football — or maybe it will work the other way and supporters will just stay at home glued to the World Cup games.
