Here is everything you need to know.

Does the winner of the Europa League qualify for the Champions League?

Until recently this wasn’t the case, but since 2015 the winner of the Europa League has automatically qualified for the Champions League.

Three teams have benefited from this rule since it was introduced.

They are Sevilla in 2015 and 2016, Man Utd in 2017 and Villarreal in 2021.

Rangers and Frankfurt will both rely on this route if they want to reach the Champions League group stage next season.

Celtic have earned Scotland’s automatic spot in the group stage by winning the league title.

Frankfurt meanwhile finished down in 11th in the Bundesliga so will not be playing European football as things stand.

When did Rangers last play in the Champions League?

Rangers did play in the Champions League third qualifying round last summer, but were beaten by Malmo.

They have not, however, played in the Champions League group stage since the 2010/11 season.

When did Frankfurt last play in the Champions League?

Frankfurt have not played in the Champions League since the 1959/60 season when it was still called the European Cup.
