Barnsley star Callum Styles, 21, snubs England and switches allegiance to Hungary after being called up for friendlies

CALLUM STYLES has been called up by Hungary – despite being born in BURY.

The Barnsley midfielder, 21, qualifies for the European nation through his grandparents.

And Styles could make his international debut when his new nation take on Serbia in a friendly in Budapest on March 24.

Hungary travel to Northern Ireland five days later.

Styles said: “To receive international recognition is one of the biggest honours in football.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family.

“I’m really excited to test myself against some of the best players in the world and show what I can do.”

Styles kicked off his football career in Burnley’s youth ranks before joining hometown club Bury in 2016.

The midfielder moved to Barnsley in 2018 in a £500,000 deal and has gone on to become a key man in the Tykes’ squad – playing 36 times in all competitions so far this season.

Styles becomes the latest in a long line of stars to turn their backs on England.
