Zinedine Zidane ‘tells Real Madrid stars he’s quitting’ at end of season despite having a year left on his deal

ZINEDINE ZIDANE will not continue as Real Madrid manager beyond this season, according to reports.

The announcement was apparently made to the Madrid squad ahead of the clash with Sevilla last week.

2020’s LaLiga win was Zidane’s 11th trophy as a manager

The Frenchman has a year left on his remaining contract but he is set to resign as manager of the club for a second time, claims Goal.

Zidane led Los Blancos to the Champions League semi-final for a fourth time this term, but was defeated by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

He still has a chance of winning LaLiga for the third time, with his team currently trailing rivals Atletico by two points with two games remaining.

The manager hinted that he could step down in a recent press conference.

He said: “It’s not, the only thing about me is that what I do, I do to the end, and then there comes a time when it’s the moment to change.

“For everyone, not just for me. For the club, for the good of the club, for the people.

“I don’t leave because it’s easy. It’s not like I turn away and don’t look back.

“No, there are moments when you have to be there and there are moments when that’s it, it’s finished, it’s time to change. But for the good of everyone, not just for me.”

But he will reportedly leave having once again guided Real Madrid to the top of both Spanish and European football in his second spell, leaving behind a record and legacy many managers would be envious of.

Zidane did not live up to the heady heights he set in his first term, however, recording a win rate of 60 per cent this time compared to 70 per cent between 2016-2018.

Real also suffered an embarrassing Copa del Rey exit to third-tier minnows Alcoyano in January.
