United went on to win the game 3-2, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a late header to seal the comeback.

Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop Mason Greenwood in favour of the veteran striker.

McAvennie told Football Insider: “You have to play for here and now.

“That is what wins you games, trophies, leagues. They want to build these young players and I get that.

“But you can’t tell me Cavani is any worse than these guys, he’s the out and out striker Man Utd need.

“He’s one hell of a player, you can’t argue with him. Greenwood is a future star, for me. He’s good, yes, but is he better than Cavani? I don’t think so. Martial is another one.

“How does he get games for Man United? If Ole wants to win he needs to start Cavani. He’s a proper striker, a proper handful for defenders.”
