Tottenham facing fixture nightmare in last two months of season with Jose Mourinho’s hectic schedule revealed

TOTTENHAM are facing a nightmare end to the 2020-21 season with a scarcely-believable fixtures pile-up.

Jose Mourinho led his side to the final of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 semi-final win over Brentford on Tuesday night.

But with Spurs still going strong in the Europa League – and with the FA Cup beginning this weekend – the squad risk burning out late in the season.

Tottenham face minnows Marine in the FA Cup third round this weekend, surely securing a spot in the fourth round, to be played later this month.

As well as a jam-packed Premier League schedule – thanks to the shortened season – Spurs are also fighting on multiple fronts.

The North Londoners take on Austrian minnows Wolfsberg in the Europa League last-32 next month, with the first-leg taking place on February 18 in Germany.

To reach the final of the Europa League alone would mean another NINE matches.

Spurs already have another 22 Premier League games still to play, as well as the Carabao Cup final and as many FA Cup games as they can possibly muster.

Mourinho recently revealed his secret to cup success is taking the oft-belittled tournaments seriously.

But he may need to let one of two fall by the wayside, as his side face a possible 40 MATCHES between now and May 26.

That’s exactly 20 weeks, meaning Spurs could face two matches every week for five months.

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple though, with many of the cup games held back until the latter portion of the season.

As things stand, should Spurs progress on all fronts, they could face eight or even NINE matches in April alone – cup-runs dependant – including a run of four games in just nine days.

They’re also scheduled to play two matches in two days thanks to the April 25 Carabao Cup final – pushed back from its usual February home in the hope fans may be able to attend by then.

That can’t happen, meaning the April 24 Premier League game against Fulham will surely be pushed back to May.

The problem with that though, is that Spurs have seven or even EIGHT more matches that month too, should they reach the FA Cup final and latter stages of the Europa League.

Mourinho must now make a decision in his quest to win Spurs their first trophy since their 2008 League Cup triumph…

Does he have his squad fight tooth and nail on all fronts and risk burnout?

Or should Mourinho let one or more fall by the wayside in a bid to keep players fresher for his critical matches?
