Solskjaer insists Man Utd ‘should not be considered title contenders’ after throwing away win against Everton

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his side ‘shouldn’t be considered title challengers’ after late heartbreak against Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored with the last kick of the match as the Toffees left Old Trafford with a point after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

United were 2-0 and 3-2 up in the game, but ultimately threw away the chance of joining fierce rivals City at the top of the Premier League.

And speaking after the game, which leaves them two points behind their neighbours having played two games more, Solskjaer hinted the result might give some people a bit of a reality check.

The 47-year-old Norwegian told Sky Sports: “We should even be considered as title chasers, we have got better as a team and see where we end up.

“We need to stop conceding easy goals.

“Results create the mood, the last kick of the ball makes us go home really disappointed, we have lost two points on a long thump upfield which we should have defended.

“We played some good football in the second half but conceded three goals from three shots on target. When you do that it is disappointing.

“We reacted well after their two goals but then why was there four minutes added in, we had to get the ball in the corner and see it out. Poor goals to concede.

“I wouldn’t blame anyone on the goals but we know we could have done better as a team on all of them.”

Edinson Cavani had fired United ahead before a sublime 25-yard chipped effort from Bruno Fernandes saw the hosts firmly in control at the break.

But Everton looked rejuvenated in the second half, and strikes from Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez levelled the game up.

Scott McTominay powered home a 70th minute header before Calvert-Lewin did his thing at the end.

United were also dealt a blow in the first half when Paul Pogba went off injured.

Solskjaer will now be waiting on the medical report from what looked like a thigh injury.
