Liverpool need to sign THREE new players in summer transfer window, says Carragher as Milan Skriniar is linked with move

LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher says the club need to sign at least THREE new players in the transfer window.

And Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is the latest big name to be linked with a summer switch to Anfield.

Liverpool look all-but out of the title race this season following a 4-1 home thumping by Manchester City at the weekend.

The usually-reliable Alisson made two goalkeepeing howlers, with ex-Red Steve McManaman telling Premier League Productions that the Brazilian had ‘possibly had the worst game that anyone has seen in the Premier League and for Liverpool’.

They are now TEN points off Pep Guardiola’s boys at the top, and look like they have a battle on to cement a top-four spot.

Speaking after this weekend’s huimbling, Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp and the squad need some ‘help’ to get them back to being title challengers.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the 43-year-old said: “This is a team who have gone to the well and produced unbelievable moments and trophies for this club, which is why I find it a little bit hard to be too critical of this team.

“They just haven’t stopped for three years. That’s why I say they need a little bit of help.

“They need three players. A centre back, someone to replace [Georginio] Wijnaldum and someone to come in for the front three.”

Liverpool coasted to the title last season with the previous season’s champs City a whopping 18 points behind in second.

But this season Guardiola has rejuvenated the troops – helped massively by looking to have finally replaced Vincent Kompany at the back with Ruben Dias.

Iklay Gundogan is another player who has looked transformed and well over his injury troubles.

And Carragher wants Liverpool to learn from City.

He added: “Man City are a massive example for Liverpool. Man City lost nine league games last season and look at them now. That can easily happen for Liverpool.

“What Man City are doing now should be an example that it is not the end of the world and they can come back next season.”

Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato reports that Liverpool are ‘at the window’ looking at Inter centre-half Skriniar, who has impressed so far this season.

The Reds were forced to bring in inexperienced duo Ben Davies from Preston and Ozan Kabak from Schalke.

Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are out for the season, with Joe Gomez likely the same.

Skriniar has previously attracted the attention of Tottenham.

Former Wales and Fulham boss Chris Coleman also thinks the club need to invest in new talent this summer – but is shocked at the charges levelled at the champions of late.

Speaking On Monday Night Football, the 50-year-old said: “I’m amazed listening to some of the criticism of Liverpool.

“This is a team that won the title, Champions League title, been labelled as one of the best teams in the Premier League – which absolutely they are.

“They are a great team, they are in a sticky moment. Will they win the league, no.

“I think they need to add some players and they need to back Jurgen in the transfer market.

“No team can maintain those standards, but can they come back again? Of course they can.”
