Frank Lampard in danger of being sacked as Chelsea should be challenging for the Premier League, says club legend Gallas

FRANK LAMPARD is in danger of being sacked by Chelsea as their squad more than capable of challenging for the Premier League.

That’s the opinion of Lampard’s former team-mate William Gallas.

The Blues spent a whopping £228.7million overhauling their squad in the summer having finished fourth last season.

Lampard brought in the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy in a bumper window.

But after 17 games, Chelsea are down in ninth place, ten points adrift of the league leaders.

With Lampard clearly struggling to fit his best players into one team, Gallas has revealed he fears for Lampard’s job.

Gallas told PlayOJO: “I am a little bit disappointed because I thought Chelsea could compete with Liverpool to win the Premier League.

“But after the last few games I was disappointed, as Chelsea didn’t show the character to win against the big clubs.

“I’m also disappointed because when you see the Chelsea squad, it’s one of the best and it’s really difficult to understand what’s going on.

“When you spend almost £250m on players, that means you want to win the Premier League.

“But at the moment Chelsea’s position isn’t good. They’re not performing against the big clubs.”

Gallas went on to say that former team-mate Lampard – with whom he won two titles and the League Cup – is in real danger of being sacked after his poor start to the season.

The Frenchman continued: “The pressure is on Frank and he needs to find a solution very quickly.

“As we know, when you are the manager of Chelsea you can be sacked very quickly.

“The pressure is on him and he has to find the right system.

“I hope Frank finds the solution as soon as possible because he’s a young manager, but I’m sure he will be a great manager in the future.

“He’s very passionate and he knows football very well.

“But I think Lampard’s position is in danger.

“I’m sure the board aren’t happy with the results which is why I’m sure Frank is in a dangerous position.”
