Ex-Liverpool star Jon Flanagan completes transfer to Danish club HB Koge after talks with manager Daniel Agger

DANIEL AGGER has convinced ex-Liverpool team-mate Jon Flanagan to join him at Danish side HB Koge.

Flanagan penned a two-year deal with Koge after having a few chats with Agger, who is now the club’s boss.

The defender signed for the second-tier Danish minnows after leaving Belgian side RSC Charleroi on a free-transfer.

And the club’s director Per Rud revealed that Agger’s glowing reference and relationship with Flanagan played a key role in them pursuing him.

The ex-Reds duo worked together at Anfield for four years from 2010-14.

Agger was there for much longer, starting his Liverpool career in 2006, months after their emphatic Champions League final win over AC Milan.

The Dane spent eight-and-a-half seasons with the Reds, playing 232 games in all competitions, netting 14 times, including a left-footed 30-yard pile-driver against West Ham in 2006.

Through 175 Premier League appearances, Agger racked up a startlingly good 73 clean sheets, winning an impressive 185 tackles in the process.

During that time he built a strong bond with Kop idol Steven Gerrard, under whom Flanagan also played at Rangers.

Gerrard brought his fellow Scouser to Ibrox in 2018 on a free transfer.

He made 21 starts over two seasons before Gerrard released him in the same fashion in 2020.

But despite letting him go, when Agger contacted the 41-year-old about Flanagan, he had nothing but good things to say, Rud claimed.

He said: “Daniel Agger has, among other things, obtained really good references on him from Steven Gerrard in Rangers.

“Daniel also knows Jon Flanagan himself and his qualities from their shared past in Liverpool.

“And we believe that Jon Flanagan can go on to become a profile here at the club.”
