Ethan Ampadu tells Chelsea he ‘needs regular football’ and admits he is yet to speak to Tuchel about his future

CHELSEA star Ethan Ampadu has told the club he needs to play regular football next season.

But the 20-year-old, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, still needs to discuss his future with manager Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Ampadu said: “I haven’t really spoken to him [Tuchel].

“I have spoken to Chelsea a little bit here and there just to see how the seasons are going, nothing for in the future, they have their season to finish off and we have ours.

“I need to be playing regular football, but I hope every footballer thinks that.

“That’s your job and that’s what you want to do, that’s why you grow up having a dream. Where ever I am I want to be playing football.

“We will have to wait and see what happens. I have dreams myself, that’s to play for one club, so we will have to wait and see.”

Ampadu also admitted this season – which is almost certain to end in relegation – has been the ‘biggest’ of his career so far.

The Blades are currently bottom of the Premier League, 15 points from safety with eight games to go.

The Wales international has impressed this campaign despite his side’s woeful position, making 23 Premier League appearances.

He’s proven to be a versatile player, featuring in several defensive positions and midfield, and may be a part of Chelsea’s squad next season.

Ampadu is yet to work with Tuchel having been loaned out by his predecessor Frank Lampard last summer.

He’s made just 12 senior appearances for the Blues since joining from boyhood club Exeter City in 2017.

The youngster spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, making just three Bundesliga appearances as they finished third in the German top flight.
