England in Covid scare at Euro 2020 base as Sky Sports presenter tests positive and is forced out of St George’s Park

ENGLAND are embroiled in a coronavirus scare after a Sky Sports reporter tested positive at the training base.

The Daily Mail report how the journalist and cameraman were asked to leave St George’s Park.

The reporter is now self-isolating at a hotel, just five days before England’s crunch Round of 16 clash with Germany.

It comes after Three Lions duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell were forced to self-isolate for 10 days after coming into close contact with Billy Gilmour.

A Sky Sports spokesperson commented: “A reporter is isolating in a hotel and awaiting the result of a PCR test.

“The camera operative tested negative and has left St George’s Park to self-isolate.”

It remains unknown whether the positive test will have any further repercussions on anybody involved within the camp.

The England squad are already on high alert following Chilwell and Mount’s isolation.

The pair were forced to miss the final group game against Czech Republic, despite returning negative coronavirus tests while none of Gilmour’s Scotland team-mates were asked to isolate.

Their period of isolation ends on June 28, just a day before England’s knockout contest with Die Mannschaft.

It was deemed a conversation in the tunnel between the Chelsea team-mates after the draw with Scotland was enough for Public Health England to enact the guidelines.

Their isolation means the duo are unlikely to be included against Germany having been forced to miss the build-up to the game.

Speaking on the guidelines, a bemused Southgate said: “It’s a bizarre situation really.

“They’ve spent 120 seconds too long in a fairly open space. It’s full of contradictions for me but we have to get on with it.

“Frankly I don’t understand it at all – there are teams travelling around by plane, coach, bus in enclosed spaces for hours. Our two boys have been pinged for something which is….I don’t get it.”
