Chelsea ‘in talks’ to hire Thomas Tuchel as next manager as pressure grows on Lampard after Leicester defeat

CHELSEA are reportedly in talks to hire Thomas Tuchel as pressure grows on Frank Lampard.

Jan Aage Fjortoft claims discussions are ongoing between Tuchel’s representatives and the Chelsea hierarchy in the wake of Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester.

SunSport revealed earlier this month that Tuchel was being lined up by Roman Abramovich following a string of bad results.

The defeat at Leicester was Chelsea’s sixth in the league this term, leaving them eighth in the table and nine points off the top.

Despite spending well over £200million last summer, Lampard is yet to get the best from new signings including German pair Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

It’s been reported elsewhere that should there be a change of manager, Chelsea want to hire someone who can speak fluent German in order to help the star duo tick.

Tuchel is available for hire after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain and replaced by former Spurs man Mauricio Pochettino.

He won two Ligue 1 titles during his 18 months in the French capital, while also leading PSG to last season’s Champions League final.

A move to Chelsea would see Tuchel reunited with his old captain Thiago Silva, who made a free switch to Stamford Bridge after the European Cup showpiece defeat by Bayern Munich.

Tuchel was eager to keep Silva in Paris but his pleas were ignored by sporting director Leonardo.

Tuchel would also get the chance to work with Christian Pulisic again, having taken charge of Borussia Dortmund for two years following Jurgen Klopp’s move to Liverpool in 2015.

Pulisic looks a shadow of the player who set West London alight last season, having been plagued by injuries.

The signs all point to Tuchel being the right man for the job should Chelsea feel a need to change direction.

And with Premier League games against Wolves, Burnley and Spurs approaching, it remains to be seen if Lampard can turn things around before the plug is pulled.
